I searched the forum for something on this but I didn't find anything thus far. I came to the US on an F-1 student visa. After completing my studies, I used my OPT(optional practical training) and worked. I continued at the job even after the OPT expired. Now i just got married and my wife is expecting our first son. I was in the process of filling out the paperwork for the adjustment of my status and I came across the employment portion. I am not sure how I should go about filling this out or how it will affect my application. I have already gotten all the forms and I have pretty much filled out all of them. I just wanted to be sure.

Be straight and mention your employment. If you don't write it and they find out, you are going to be in deep deep ****. There is a severe punishment for misrepresentation and fraud and can result in deportation and bar on ever getting any immigration or non-immigration benefit.

Sorry to be harsh, but you worked illegally and now you may have to pay the price. It may or may not affect you adjustment, but you should not hide things or lie to the US government, or you can be in serious trouble if they find out.

Honesty is the best policy. Yes, you "overstayed" your duration of OPT, but disclosing it now is MUCH better than you getting asked by the USCIS challenging you about it. I don't think your situation is all that uncommon. I honestly think that's what I would do if I were you...

how long did you continue to work after the EAD expired? That would really go against you and I think you should expect this to be brought up.

Since you're OPT is expired, you are probably out of status, too, which is another thing going against you.

Do not cover anything up and acquire the services of an immigrations lawyer.

Your employer may also have broken the law for continuing to hire you after your EAD expires.

I do not know what the reasons are behind this happening but good luck.

Wasn't trying to hide anything. I was just getting as much info from this forum as I possibly could. I came across it accidentally and it looks like there is a wealth of info here, so I just thought I would ask. Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate it.

It may be more difficult than you initially thought because you overstayed and worked and 'working' is considered an immigrant benefit. I think you should consult a lawyer since yours is more complicated than just a simple overstay
