October 08 K1 Filers

Well on their website they say they go in order of being received, but we know that can't be true.
I know there is some "logic" to the filing system when you break down the case numbers which may or may not explain the working order.

EAC = Eastern Adjudication Center aka Vermont Service center.

WAC = Western Adjudication Center aka California Service center.

The first 2 digits are the fiscal year in which the case was received. October filers with October NOA1 dates should have an 09 as the fiscal year starts October 1.

The next 3 digits are the workday (not calendar days) in the fiscal year, usually monday to friday and around 265 workdays per year.

The last 5 digits are the case number on that day and usually begins with a "5".

So our case number is EAC 09 012 5xxxx meaning it was received on the 12th workday of the 2009 fiscal year. Whether or not they are working in that order, I really don't know but was hoping it would be.

My only real concern was that I was worried that VSC would likely try to clear our 2008 fiscal year cases before working on 2009, but that doesn't appear to be the case with so many October filers being approved.

Though I wish someone would touch us already

Dunno if it helps but our number is EAC 09-009-5xxxx.

Our's is EAC 09 022 5xxxx

Thanks for that RBAL_TN, I guess my next question is - how do they decide which one to do next? I guess maybe each adjucator gets a box and the petitions are spread out among the boxes, etc. I don't really get it. Oh well.

Wish I knew how they were sorted per box too. There was a Q & A post a few years ago from a former adjudicator. It was mentioned that they were about 50 +/- per box and that I-129Fs took about 15 min or so to process, but no rhyme or reason as to the order was mentioned. I think everyone just assumes its first-in, first-out but it doesn't appear that way to the rest of us.

My number is EAC 09-001-5xxx and I haven't seen a touch since they entered it in the system.

I have to say that it looks like it really is just luck of the draw - randomized by what box it's in, what order the boxes get grabbed in and what order/how fast the various people process what's in the box.

EAC-09-015-5XXXX

It seems that the second set of numbers is not the date on which the I-129F was received, because mine was not even sent until the 16th of Oct. I put forth the second number is the 'lot' or box in which one's petition is contained.

For example:

SW013 got NOA1 on Oct. 1st and received a number of 09-001,

whereas Laura got NOA1 on Oct. 14th (two weeks later) and had the series 09-009.

I received NOA1 on Oct. 21st and am in series 09-015.

See what I mean? The date one's petition is received and/or NOA1 is correlated with those number.

The second set is "working days". You don't count Saturday and Sunday. So if VSC received your file on Oct 21, that's 15 working days into the new fiscal year when you do not count the weekends. Usually the NOA1 date is the same day or one day later when they get the letter out - as in Laura's case.
