Lucky indeed!!! Although I bet that on some small level, its also frustrating being so close yet having to jump through the immigration hoops as well.

It's a good thing I don't mind flying (used to it as I fly a lot with my job), so a 9.5 hour flight isn't too terrible.

In the end, its all worth whatever we each have to deal with.

I fell really ill on my last flight to the US and spend the whole flight back sleepy as I took calming pills. Now I'm a bit of a nervous flier and am dreading the 9/10 hour flight to Atlanta.

Wow that must've sucked Laura...I hope hope that your future trips will go well.

RBAL_TN : you are right I do feel lucky to be close, but it kills us the fact that we are so close yet so far and that we have to go through all the paperwork craziness.....aaargh! :(

Even while I was living in Thailand, my fiancee and I were a 12 hour bus ride apart! We'd take turns seeing each other every few weekends. In this sense, we've always had a long distance relationship, but like ruby_mtl I felt grateful that we could be together during those times.

Welcome gumbo. My feelings are the same.

It's never easy saying goodbye to one another, but wow - 22 hours on a plane is absolute torture. When you finally get your visa, I'm sure you'll be relieved to not have to make that long flight alone again.

I am about a day and a half (36 hours) away from my fiancee, for once I spend about 24 hours getting to Thailand, it's the additional 12 hours up to her village. I really liked the New York City to Bangkok non-stop flight (17 hours) but it was cancelled just before my most recent trip this past summer after I had purchased the ticket. In the end the rerouted flights that Thai Air arranged were about 27 hours total.

Then again, it's nice to say we're literally hours from our loved ones. I've been watching the TV show Crusoe, and he's been separated from his wife for over six years.
