Medical Exam/Drug Use

Okay, i've got a very important question and need everyones help. My husband will be having his interview in Juarez Mexico. His medical exam will also be held there. I know a question that will be asked is about drug use. I'm not going to deny this to you but my husband did have an experiment with marijuana and cocaine about 5 years ago. He just basically tried it - no addiction or long term use. What does he need to say when asked? If he admits to it, will this ruin his chances of being approved? What if he denies it...... will there be a way they'll find out? I mean, he honestly hasn't done anything in a little over 5 years. I am just scared and don't know what we should do!

Another question, we filed our I-130 petition in late April with a NOA1 date of May 5th. It's at the Vermont Service Center. Does anyone know about how much longer it will be before the approval notice? Thanks for everyones help and support on VJ. This is a wonderful link for everyone going through the immigration process. Based on timeline data, your I130 may be adjudicated between January 20, 2009 and February 18, 2009*.

Tough situation:

If he admits to it he will be denied.

If he lies and the lie is discovered at any point (even after naturalization), he can loose all benefits of immigration from the point of the lie -- include loss of citizenship, loss of permanent residence and deportation with an unwaiverable lifetime bar.

I do not recommend lying only because I have NO idea if they can tell if your husband has used drugs or not. However, the wait times vary case to case from what I can tell. It could be soon but it could still be a few months. It seems that USCIS has no rhyme or reason to their processing

There is only 1 legal avenue: Admit it and accept the denial and take the steps needed to overcome the denial. This will not be quick or guaranteed.

There's one test that cannot be certain ... the trust test.

Can the immigrant trust that noone will ever, in his entire life, divulge that he lied?

Those that are closest to you now may be your worst enemy in the future.

So that can't possibly determine drug use over 5 years ago..... I say deny drug use but my husband thinks he should admit it

I agree. And, if they ever get divorced, how mean will it get? I have seen the lengths people will go to in a divorce to hurt the other person. He is taking all the risk.

Lying during any part of this procedure and process to me isn't worth it. Wouldn't it be best to say that yes, he did it over 5 years ago but has since rehabilitated?
