It is silly to pin this on McCain when science went out the window many years ago. And that has nothing to do with McCain.

How many kids are seriously interested in that stuff, when compared to the ####### on MTV or their games console. Your average inner city Chicagoan kid is probably to busy thinking about which way they can go home today without being shot.

Oh the clairvoyance.

FWIW, plenty of inner city kids go to Adler. Much like plenty of suburban kids.

maviwaro face it, the city is a ghetto. The last thing on these kids minds is going to a planetarium. Unless they can wheel and deal in there of course ..

Coming from your judgment, BY, its not much to say at all.

I'd honestly rather trust some of those "wheeling and dealing ghetto kids" where I actually live than the ramblings of someone that has way too much anger welt up inside.

the point is, he wrongly denigrated obama and the planetarium by saying the planetarium projection system was a mere overhead projector. he criticized how much was spent on it, which is nothing compared to the spend on the wars we are in right now.

Yeah I know. I am just stirring maviwaro.. I would think McCain did not understand what the projector is for.

Well keep trying. :P

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Which does not change the fact that it is a gheeeeetttttooooo...

You need to put your apparently open-minded liberal mind to some use and look at other cities abroad. And cultures for that matter. Melbourne did not become the most livable city in the world by using the cause and effect or they simply need education excuses..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I think I've already stated that my passport is pretty full of stamps. I'm not the closed minded one here, remember.

AS far as Chicago having its issues- sure, why not. It doesn't change the fact that you have attitude problems either.

Oh but we shouldn't be spending money on education when we have to straighten the punks out with a heavy hand. Serves them right for making the entire city of Chicago a ghetto Don't ya know?

No the $3 million dollars is not a good deal because that money could be better spent installing security cameras on absolutely every single block in that city. As I said in another thread, education is pointless if one cannot function freely and without being a victim of crime in a community. If this is the waste McCain is talking about, yes I agree with him.

The beauty about cameras is that the race card does not work on them. Now that is science

Common problem for me but your problems dwarf mine.

what does anything you said have to do with his "overhead projector" comment? the planetarium is about education. mccain does not think it is justified and so therefore does not think education is important. meanwhile how much gets spent on a pointless war each week? which might i add, he approves of. how hard is this for you to comprehend? i also don't care what quotes you bring up about clinton, he isn't running for president. keep clutching at straws though, after all, it's all you have.

McCain is running for president. The president is the head of the executive branch of the Federal government (I feel like I'm talking to Palin's baby with Down's syndrome) and the Federal government has little influence on the funding of education or museums in America. BTW, America is the land way beyond the British Isles so you can't see it even from Cornwall. The figure I gave was 1.5% of Federal spending on culture and the arts. If there's little to cut in Federal spending on education or museums, McCain can't do much on the issue.

War? I think there are at least two wars in progress that the U.S. is involved in but which is the "pointless" one? I could go into the "guns vs. butter" in economics but you have some other threads to proofread.

*News flash*

Adler Planetarium never received those $3M.

As for other investing opportunities- $3M can easily be spent out of the $10B/month that are currently blundered away in the Middle East. ;)

And, BTW, Chicago has about 10% (and rising since 2006) of its intersections under camera surveilance. DHS frequently cooperates with the City in the security algorithm integration of surveillance. Translation: get over it.

Here's an older linkie.

And in the same 1998 link we see that approximately 54% of museum funds are raised in admissions and fundraising drives. Which means that when there is less money to spend due to weak economies, that Federal input becomes more significant proportionately.
