Why? If you do not have a consulate preference they will assign based on jurisdiction of residence of the benneficiary, besides it is done by NVC not USCIS.

This is important if you are a foreign national resident in another country. You could have your interview in your current residence country or your country of citizenship. Here is where it might be important to make your preference known. Otherwise you simply accept what is chosen for you.

cmnb,

I was stressed because I put mumbai, india. I thought I will get RFE when they work on my file, but I guess it'll be ok (atleast we hope). I spoke with VSC officer and they said there should be no problem, but I wanted to make sure with my fellow VJers.

Thanks for your quick response!

from the looks of it and some answers from my fellow vjers, i think we can conclude that this question no matter however it is answered (except for if your spouse is in the US) should not matter unless you have a special request to interview in another country....for example if you want to interview in france and you are from india, you will need to put the embassy/consulate name there.
