Well I haven't been on much lately

Mainly because of many little things going on in the past 2 weeks.

But the major thing is that the kid's grandfather, the father of my husband's ex wife, passed away last thrusday. Heart attack at the young age of 56 years old.

We went to the wake and the funerals on monday and tuesday, and even though I didn't know him much (only from seeing him at their baseball games) it was really sad. And he was retired from the Navy so he had the military funeral, that was very emotional.

We might have some changes going on about the custody, because he was a main caretaker of the kids along with the ex, but it's not sure quite yet.

I guess the only positive thing is that his wife (who used to completely hide from me behind trees at the games or hide behind doors when we were driving the kids home, and also used to scream in the background when Josh was on the phone with his ex) she was very touched that we went and she hugged me and held my hand very tight while taking to me like I was very close to the family. Hopefully it's gonna improve our relationship with the family, even though it was from sad circumstances.

And no need for sympathy and all, I am not like deeply affected by it or nothing, it was more to let you know why I wasn't around much and I guess, just to talk about it

That shows your kindness as a person, and showing respect in a difficult situation. Sometimes goodness comes out of sadness and perhaps this can lead to an improved relationship like you said!!

Marie, I think it is really great that you went to an event like this. My mother in law and father in law are divorced, but if any one dies or similar situations, she still attends everything on my FIL's side. I always admired that about her. It's nice they can all be in the same room together: my father in laws new wife, my husbands mum and dad.

I think it is extremely respectful and courteous. I hope your relationship with her becomes a positive thing.

What a sad ordeal and such a young man.

I've got such a big family that there have been separations and divorces. Some of the people who were married to a sister or brother have thought that once the divorce was final, the ties to the family were over too. I don't work that way. Whoever it is, they married my sibling not the family and just because they are no longer married to my sibling doesn't mean they are no longer my family. They were either the mother or father to nephews/nieces. In my eyes, they are still family.

I hope this is the beginning to a better connection for you Marie with the other side of your children's family.
