:help: Has anybody had this happen to them????

I'm about to fax in my checklist and my DS-230 to the consulate but I'm wondering what I should do.....

I'm gonna be away for 2 weeks in July and I'm hoping they won't schedule my interview during that time. When I fax in my documents should I tell them at that time or should I wait to see when my interview is and then if it does happen to be during my vacation will it be ok to call the consulate and ask them to reschedule my interview????

Thanks in advance.

What embassy would you be going to? July seems like an awful quick turnaround time although it would depend on where you're going. I notice you're in Canada, as am I. If you're going to Montreal I believe it's taking them like 3-4 months to schedule interviews .

Nov 29 2005 I-130 received at VSC

Mar 13 2006 I-130 approved at CSC

April 24 2006 $380 mailed to NVC

May 5 2006 I-186 mailed to NVC

May 18 2006 I-186 received by NVC

I'll be going to the Vancouver consolate.

do you really want to take that chance? would it kill you to stay at home until you get your interview date?

I suppose it wouldn't kill me but I would be out my airfare and accomodation for trip. I guess I could just email the consulate and ask them. The worst that could happen is them telling me no they couldn't change it. I could probably reschedule my flight though. :hehe:

Maybe poke around this site first to get an idea of how long it's taking for Vancouver to schedule interviews. Don't want to get stressed if July isn't even a possibility!

But I think you should be able to get another interview date if by some chance it were scheduled for that week. I asked about this before myself and was told to just call and ask to reschedule. It might take a month or so, though, so be prepared for that!

With Vancouver giving interviews 4 weeks after you fax them your checklist I would think you would get your interview before your holiday.

Not to stress you out but is your holiday that you are going to in July happen to be to the USA. If so that could really mess things up if you get your visa and they force you to activate it on your holiday.

If your holiday is in the US I'd suggest that you somehow delay faxing Vancouver or try to get them to make the interview after you return.

I agree with sjoe - why not wait to return packet 3?

I HAD to cos my vaccination records proved annoyingly tricky to get - so I had packet 3 almost a month before I sent it back.

If it were I, I would contact Vancouver consualte and see what they have to say, they are the only ones that can give you an answer. From the posts on here, they seem to be fairly accomodating. Im sure it would be very easy to assign a date later down the road. One could wait to mail (fax) it in, but maybe things slow down and then who have to wait a lot longer (sort of like Mtl!!) But talk to them and they should be able to give you proper direction.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I agree, talk to the Vancouver consualte and see what they say. When I was ready to send my documents to the Dublin Embassy, I was going to be out of the country for 2 weeks soon after and wanted to be scheduled soon for the interview, but obviously not while I was away.

So I called the Embassy and asked what I should do and they said to send everything in so they could process the application and schedule the interview and to just mention in an additional memo with the application the dates that I would not be available.

Soon after I got back from vacation, I had my interview date which as promised by the Embassy did not coincide with the dates I was not available.
