Actually this is becoming an issue in America. Not to my surprise, the same clowns that tend to do the exact same thing here in OT are brushing this off. This country was founded on freedom to express political views. Yes the actual definition of the first amendment. Yet there is a growing trend by those with left wing views in trying to silence anyone with opposing views. Yes, this is another one of those apparently "isolated incidents".

We had political disagreements back home but we never silenced or thought we were better and smarter than those with differing views. Definitely not the case here.

But this is your only argument in EVERY single thread. You don't post views, you post that everyone with different views get silenced, or attacked or whatever.

There's nothing wrong with different views, and I don't think it's that hard to be respectful when you express them.

How is one supposed to post a view when if it goes against the grain, the same group of people simply refuse to hear it. Then resort to personal insults. IE EG this freakin thread lol

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You must be new to America.

Freedom of speech goes two ways.

You have the right to express an opinion.

One has the right to express their opinion on your opinion.

Any questions?

Thanks for the memo, as I did not know this.

Hatred is generally not acceptable in other civilized nations. As is not trying to suppress or belittle others with differing views.

Uh, one cannot really tell "hatred" unless it comes in the form of violence. Violence is illegal. Criticizing and expressing views on an opinion is not illegal, nor is it hatred.

And you don't need to be telling me about differing views. I was called a terrorist sympathizer and unpatriotic piece of sh!t for opposing the Iraq war (and my research paper on impeaching Bush) by a few conservative nutjobs in school (who were, funny enough, highly outnumbered, themselves). As asinine as I would find some speech, no matter how negative or disrespectful or distasteful, I would still protect it.

That almost seemed like a pun.

Only morons call other people idiots.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Seriously, are you on some sort of medication?

Evidently sarcasm is well over your head. *whoosh*

You nor I, nor anyone else in this or any other thread are going to change anyone's mind about what they believe in.

I do however, like to hear differing views. I find it interesting.

As long as I'm respectful of someone else's views, I haven't had any trouble with insults.

Perhaps it's the way those views are expressed that is the problem.

Hatred comes in many forms and is not restricted to slavery or segregation. I know this is a newsflash for many here.

What I classify as differing political views is something like Obama saying I did not agree with going to Iraq. There is a fine line between political views and someone just saying stupid #######.

I like differing views too. I'm often quite considerate of other views (started out quite soft on my debates until I got personally attacked for my views), but the problem in OT is the disrespect comes from all sides, and drags people along, making it far more divisive than some sort of intelligent discussion or debate. Which is ultimately fine with me. I can have it both ways. The irony here is reading Aficionado of all people complaining about respect of other views.

I just say let the discussion go where it goes. Participate or not.

Although, I must say I can't wait until after the election when all of these damn political topics go. Would be nice to discuss some other things for a change.

See, now why do you want to put people on the defensive by adding that little tidbit to your post?

I'm not attacking you, just trying to show how discussions start getting out of hand by one little sentence.

I don't have a problem with anything else you said.

I hear ya, but it's so easy to turn it around - whatever side you're on.

I'll be glad too, it's tiring as of late.

True. I guess it goes, upon the original stereotyping of conservative vs. liberal, if you don't fit in their categories, as in, if you're an individual, no need to get offended. Often times I get called a liberal, and could easily associate myself with one, but when people ####### on "liberals" I don't really care.

I am not saying you are the problem but there are people here who camp out, with obviously little else to do in their life, and look for threads like these to attack. There are many threads that Steven, AJ, Six etc create that I do not agree with, and think are stupid, so I simply do not post in them. Rather than go post ####### about how dumb and stupid they are. What many here fail to realize is that thinking one is stupid works both ways. Also, the OT section would not be a friendly place if conservatives took the same approach and camped out to attack every single left wing thread.

Right wing views are not a minority in this country or this world for that matter. Far from it actually. When you think about it, most non westernized nations are quite conservative. So either the 50 million liberals in America are stupid, or everyone else is stupid.
