I keep reading about interview questions asked to beneficiaries in VN that I don't understand how the consulate knows the answers to ... can anyone explain this to me?

How is it that the HCMC consulate asks questions of the girl like: How many brothers and sisters does your Fiancee have and does his son live with him, etc etc .... how does HCMC have information like this about the petitioner in the first place?

I have never seen any questions like that asked of the petitioner on any of the forms I have downloaded for myself. I know they have my parents name because of birth certificate but other than that, how can they know if you have children from previous marriages, brothers and sisters, etc?? Are these trick questions or do they ask for this information at some point I am not aware of?

Thanks

Jonas

More important than what your answers to those questions, is how you respond to them. it's more of an interogation than an interview. you can answer all your questions correct, but if they sense doubt or suspcetion, they can pick up on that. it's not only important what you answer, but also how you answer it. That's why it's important to practice for the interview. so when someone says i answered all my interview questions right, but i still got denied, I can only think that they choked under pressure. Rarely do viets interview for anything. they don't have that interviewing experience. officers can pick off any sign of suspecrtion from an unprepared interviewee. This is not a test, they don't care how many questions you get right or wrong. they want to see if your relationship is real.

It is my opinion that this is the case, too. (Though I don't have any hard evidence.)

I agree that it is not only what you answer but HOW you answer this question that counts. Xuan was very confident with her answers because we practiced everyday for over 3 months. BUT I have heard of the consulate calling the other part of the couple to ask them the same questions and if they do not match then that is the end of that. That is why when we practice Xuan answered the question exactily as I had written them for her to answer and I had all of the documentation up on both of my monitors just incase they called me. Long story short they do not know the correct answer in most cases but they may compair the answers so be prepaired.

Just my thoughts, but what do I know? We got a green sheet on our first try. :crying:

Hi Jack, did the consulate call you to ask you anything before her interview? How did they know about you having a son?

Part of it is probably what others have said above, but you do give some of that information to them as well. On the I-134, question 8 says..."The following persons are dependent upon me for support:"...so they would know about any kids you support, as well as any other family members you might be helping out. If someone else is doing an AoS for your case, like your parents, and they list children they're supporting, well, there's your answer on siblings. Maybe pictures were included that showed children/siblings in them....maybe your answer to how you met included other relations (being introduced by, meeting, whatever). If family members included letters stating they've seen you together and believe you have a bona fide relationship, well, not to hard to figure that out. There's possible clues all over the place for that kind of info.

The Consulate has been doing this for years. Just as you can go to a mechanic with your car, he'll know lots about, what could be wrong with it and why. He's seen lots of cars and knows from experience. The Consulate has seen a lot of applicants so they know what to ask that can seem like they're reading your mind.

Just be confident and relaxed (as much as possible). Answer the questions truthfully and don't be afraid to ask questions of the CO and translator. Like a job interview, you have to "sell yourself".
