... my idea is not based on saving money due to gas prices (although that is always a good thing),

or to cut emissions (also a great thing),

the idea was way bigger.

I can't wait to hear this!

skateboard for everyone!

it would be here, aside from the heat and the humidity (it's somewhat cool here today and its 80f with 80% humidity) which would make you turn up to work sweating like a pig, there are NO sidewalks, at all. it would be highly dangerous to do that here, sadly. i miss sidewalks :crying:

Ah, the deep south. I lived in Mandeville, NOLA, and Hammond for most of my life....though NOLA did have the streetcar which I took to work daily.

We conserve already in many aspects of our life. It wouldn't be a crisis to not drive for a week, but with 3 kids to get to sports, choir, band, football games, etc. it's not really doable in our family.

oh cool. i'm in ms on the gulf coast. we pretty much have no public transport unless you want to go to a military base or a casino and of course you have to wait 2 hours in the heat for one to maybe turn up. imagine the smell on the bus!

My sis lived in Bay St. Louis and we still have family in Gulfport. Yeah, public transport definitely not good there.

I'm lucky that we're in Seattle and I really only live about 4 miles from work. I could walk or ride a bike if the weather was nice. It takes longer to ride the bus than to walk

But as I said because the kids have to get to 3 different places all within 15 minutes after school is out, I drive. P and I walk to the video store or the grocery store or whatever though pretty often.

oh cool, ya i'm in gpt right now ;) so as you know there is no way to get around here without a car. i really don't like it, i miss being able to walk to a store. we can walk in the mall or walmart but that is about it. we are thinking that when i finally move here that we will relocate to washington or oregon where it's cooler, more liberal and of course where there is public transport. if we do though, i know we will both miss the ultra friendliness of everyone here. :(

obviously people still need cars to be able to live and buy groceries, for example buying cases of coke or something, or taking your kids somewhere, but if you make an effort to walk to a store nearby that's better than driving there too :)

the OP was about not driving my car for a week .. and I've done this on more than one occasion

work is 20 miles one way from home and there are two grocery stores within 1/2 mile from home ... I simply use alternate available resources to commute back/forth to work and the stores (the delta for my travel time to work is within +/- 5 minutes ... if I take my car ... or not)

it's kinda nice to fill the gas tank on Sunday and a week later the tank is still full.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
