There is just no hope for BY. He believes that there is some cultural component, irrespective of conditions, that mean that Africans (or black people) are unable to help themselves when it comes to certain types of behaviour.

After all, we have thrown so much cash at Africa, they should be living like kings by now.

One has to tackle the issues at hand, do they not? Would you be able to function if you had to worry about being raped, mugged, attacked or killed on a daily basis?

Oh I forgot education will fix this.

"After all", as usual, you do not know what you are taking about yet continue to use cryptic bull ####### and witty insults to make up for it.

No, its part of it. Safety and education. Surely you can wrap your mind around that.

I suspect I have an idea what some of these "successful strategies which have been used overseas but would probably be branded as racist here" might be.

China's one-child policy?

Forced sterilization?

I hope not...

No lets educate them. Are you volunteering to go into these communities, round up the people and then "educate them"..

Well I've already invited you to go into DC to talk some sense into 'the folk.'

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

My 'bullcrap' is hardly cryptic :). I have accused you of not being able to distinguish between 'black culture' and gang activity.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I don't think anyone has said that education is the sole solution to the problems of the inner city.

it's a major key but it cannot really help those who are already in those situations, whatever they may be. the only option for them is to hit rock bottom and maybe they'll see the light, but maybe they won't. the important part is to start educating people now to try and make sure that future generations don't fall into the same hole.

That's as I see it.

The way I read it he's saying that we need immediate solutions immediately. Though how practical this is is another matter - especially if you're not prepared to accept that certain basic disparities need to be addressed in order to turn things around, and that this isn't something that you can have straightaway.

It would obviously help to know what we're talking about - but police crackdowns, for example, have been attempted in many problem cities, with varying degress of short-term success, but certainly nothing that would raise the possiblity of long-term change.

in a perfect world i'm sure everyone in the world would like to eradicate these problems and if it was possible it would be done, but it isn't. that's like saying lets get rid of racism by telling all older racist people (the more likely racist candidates) not to be racist anymore, it just won't happen. some people were taught that it is normal to behave that way and they will act the way they feel is appropriate. it is too late for those people. instead, racism is tackled by educating young people before they can adopt this stupid attitude. the same needs to happen with parenting.
