AK - you confused the heck out of them with your request. They got lost in the instructions of what to do, and forgot the rest. Are you surprised? I'm not. It was probably someone processing that doesnt have a 10th grade education, and has a gov't job cause Uncle Joe got him in while the time was right, back in the day.

a]. Add pages to my passport. Here is the form you require filled out by me.

b]. Please replace cover. Here are two photos if you need them.

c]. Be sure to return my old passport if you replace it with a new one.

Which of those is really so hard to understand? Hell, my dog can understand those instructions.

Because replacing a cover is not the standard when you asked for more pages. Its 2 diff requests they couldn't process in their heads. They didnt know if you wanted a new passport, hence the call. As simple as it seems, they didnt get it, and the reason for you not getting your old passport back.

There could be a law which says something about having 2 legal passports at one time.

You might have to fill out some legal forms to have 2 valid passports in your name.

Just a thought.

Um, that's why they are supposed to CANCEL the old one and send it back to you. That's the standard procedure. It's also what they said they would do when I talked to them. Edited October 7, 2008 by akdiver
