I received my NOA on March 25th 2008 for my I-751. Starting Feb 2009 I am planning on taking a 5 month trip, but the conditional resident extension from the NOA will expire in April, before the end of the trip. Anyone know if it is possible to get my conditional resident status extended before going on the trip? I am also planning on filing my N-400 in January 2009 if that changes anything (90 days before the 3 years.)

Thanks!

Before your trip, make an infopass appt. to get the I-551 stamp in your passport. The stamp will be good for 1 year from the day you get the stamp.

I think it might be best if you wait to file for naturalization until after you get back from your 5 month trip. If you miss an appt while you are gone, the application may be denied.

I'm happy to come back for the appointment if it happens, but when I checked the processing times for the New York office I don't think that is going to happen.

I'll check into the stamp, I didn't realize you could do that. Has anyone else done that before the expiration of your NOA?

We never even got an NOA, so we just made an appt. and got the stamp.

What did they say about that? I've never really heard anyone say they haven't gotten the NOA.

You don't think that will effect you receiving the 10 year GC in the mail, do you?

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I assume it was a problem that I sent in the application to TSC after they had started processing them at VSC. TSC forwarded the application, but didn't send an NOA. I'm not much of a worryier until there is something to really worry about. I doubt very much that it will have any effect on getting the GC in the mail. We have always been at the same address.
