travel to US from canada

hello hello hello my good fellow canucks , been a while since I posted

hope everyone is doin well

I got a question , I like to have my kids ( ages 20 and 22 ) here for christmas

they are both candians , son has his passport daughter only has her citizenship card no passport yet

( well she still has her old german passport wich is still valid, she just past the citizenship test few month ago and got her canadien citizenship card ) now I know my son is ok to travel ,

but does my daughter need the canadien passport if they want to take the train to come to the us,

or will she be fine with just the citizenship card , and medical card ?

if anyone knows the answer i apriciate it , ty Lona

She should be fine with her citizenship card travelling for Christmas. The WHTI (Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative) will require passports for everyone - US citizen or not - crossing the border by land or water effective in June 2009. Currently passports are required for air travel.

Your son and daughter should have return tickets and bring copies of evidence of their ties to Canada with them - letters from employers; enrollment in University or College; lease or proof of utility responsibilities/ car payments, etc. showing they have financial or material ties to Canada. They can use these to show that they have no intention of staying in the US after their Christmas holidays and it will help make it easier for the US border guards to let them in the country.
