Cultures are a bit different in other countries, I'll put it that way. Freedom is very ambiguous, and clearly countries have different ways of defining it.

The UK and Australia have been, recently, exceedingly clandestine in censorship for some PC crowd. It's one thing to protect people from physical harm, another to protect people from speech and expression. Both countries are turning into fvcking nanny governments trying to babysit adults and protect them from the smallest things, like movies and video games. Watch Aficionado's excuse for it (remember, protecting people from the evils of "Crappywood") and you'll see exactly what I mean. This sort of censoring is laughable and I urge anyone to make fun of people who support censorship in this manner. Nothing beats censorship than the good ol' middle finger.

The U.S. has been clandestine for rights in the sense that you give up freedoms for monitoring. You get your calls monitored now, you get x-ray searched in certain POEs (some new device where they can actually see through your clothing, i.e. your private parts, opposed to general x-ray), some extra sense of security because we're too paranoid about getting attacked again and so we seem to naively think that all this extra security (notice how Security companies, like the one a friend of mine owns) are popping up everywhere? Security patrol for malls, shopping centers, business centers, apartment complexes, pretty much everywhere. We certainly are on display to the world that we're scared, and scared people make the worst and most illogical decisions. This has also been justification for the resurgence of protest cages. Fear the protesters! Fear dissent! :bonk:

Personally I prescribe to social freedoms that were given in the constitution. The right of my fist ends at your nose, free speech except in the cases of yelling FIRE, and slander. The rest of speech you just learn how to ###### deal with it. If you don't like violent video games or movies, don't play or watch them, if you don't like speech, ignore it. If your government allows a terrorist attack to happen, make government work better, not take away freedoms, as the only guarantee of security you've got in giving away your freedoms is.. you have less freedom. Most of these applications of common sense are largely overlooked either by idealists or paranoid people trying to be overprotective and not tolerant and accepting enough. These people have no business dictating what others see, or hear, or read, or think.

Yeah, i don't know...

i've lived in Central America and MENA, and one of the things i noticed the most was the muted, tentativeness of personal expression.

Yes, there are a lot of inequalities here, and definitely the Big Brother telephone/email monitoring is scary... no argument here... and sometimes i'm the first to fall into the grass is always greener mindset...

but then i remember, in some places, you disappear if your say something unwelcome against a president or a monarch. in some places, little girls can't go to school, they are forced into marriages, women can't wear the clothes they want, newspapers can't print the truth...

So yeah, i agree that there are inequalities here, but it just can't compare to how oppressive some other places are, in terms of personal freedom & expression.

A.J. you make me laugh with your not wanting to respond right now statement.

And I have more to say and to respond to others here who had their say, and I will....later!

Yeah, censorship sucks...even when I don't agree with something, everybody must have their say.

I don't like that groups that are racist or sexist or misogynists etc etc distribute their propaganda and/or burn crosses and/or murder a doctor that performs abortions...but see how it goes from simple "advertising" to violence?

Sometimes I pretend that I am a supreme being and I hover over this little planet and observe its inhabitants.

It perplexes, it discourages, it downright sickens me...the things I have seen.

All I can do, as a human being, is keep the energetic love pouring and hope that someone somewhere feels it.

And I know I have some impact...I am told all the time.

Thank you!

Let go of fear.

It is the root of aggression.

not new - that would fall under campaigning for a candidate and is forbidden within a set distance of the polling site.
