One shot at the time of filing is fine. I got mine from my gyno, since my insurance would cover it before going to the CS

Hi all,

I just had my physical exam and the doctor told me that I need to get HPV vaccines. My question is Do I need to complete the whole series before I can turn in my AOS application? If not, can I just get one shot and that's it?

Thanks guys

To get a K1 visa in Bangkok, all vaccinations are optional. However, you will need them to adjust status once you are in the USA. It may be cheaper to have them done in Bangkok. In our case, the vaccinations are covered by my insurance at 100%, so it was cheaper to have them completed in the USA.

Both BNH and Bumrumgrad have been known to push the vaccines, even though they are not actually required to receive the visa. See the FAQ on the embassy website:

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_vis...ncee-visas.html

"Vaccination RequirementsAll applicants for immigrant visas are required to have the following vaccinations if appropriate for age, medical condition or medical history:

• Mumps

• Measles

• Rubella

• Polio

• Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

• Pertussis

• Influenza type B

• Hepatitis B

• Varicella

• Pneumococcal

As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage."

Their site does not include HPV, but it is a recent addition to the list for a certain age group. Read page five of the I-693 instructions for a listing of the vaccinations you will be required to have had. This form is included in your AOS filing.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-693instr.pdf

So to answer your question, you'll be fine with whatever you already have, but you will eventually have to complete your vaccination requirements prior to filing AOS.

Best of luck!

As long as the first dose is administered, it's considered "complete" by CIS for application purposes. You don't even need to receive the other doses, nobody will ever ask you or check if you did. Many people just get the first dose, let the Civil Surgeon mark the form and never go back for the rest.

From CIS website:

Q: Does USCIS require that all shots in each vaccine series be completed before applying for adjustment of status?

No. The applicant must have received all the required age-appropriate vaccines that could be given at the time of the medical exam. If the applicant has started the vaccination series, but is not able to complete all the required shots because, at the time of the medical exam, the minimum time interval between shots has not passed, the applicant may still apply for adjustment of status. A waiver is available in cases where, due to required time intervals, it was impossible for the applicant to receive all shots in the series before submitting the application for adjustment of status.

For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine requires that applicant receive two doses of vaccine, six months apart. If the applicant receives the first dose in January, he or she does not have to wait until July, when the second dose would be given, to submit the adjustment of status application. However, the applicant must have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, if appropriate, before applying for adjustment of status.

Excellent advice for a K-1 applicant but that is not the OP's situation....

YMMV

Thank you guys for all the information.

I have one more question that needed to be answered...

So I know that once you get your first HPV, you have to go back within two months to get the second one..

Well, if I get my HPV now in October, that means that i have to back to get the second one sometimes in December.

IF I don't turn in my AOS application until January next year, do I have to get a second one? If I do, Can I just attach the proof showing that I get a second one not in a seal envelope?

The thing is that I am moving in November to another state therefore my physical examination and my shot record will already be in a seal envelope from my doctor here in Nevada.

I hope i am not confused anybody.

Thanks again guys!!! :)

I'm thinking NO. The envelope will be sealed already and it will indicate that you got the first shot. I don't think anybody is too concerned if you got the second one.

If you don't plan on sending AOS until January, why do the HPV so early? Wait till December and you won't have a problem.

Because i already had my physical examination done in Nevada. All i need to get done is just to get a HPV vaccines and my I-693 will be completed. I am moving in November so if I dont get HPV done before I move, I will probably have to pay another hundred dollars to do the physical exam again.

According to your response, it seems like it won't be a probelm then if i dont get a second one..

The HPV vaccine is required for females ages 11 through 26 years of age. As with all the vaccinations, because completion of a vaccine series often takes several months, applicants are currently not required to complete a series before being medically cleared to proceed with adjustment of status. They must, however, complete as many doses as was medically appropriate at the time the medical exam was conducted and are encouraged to follow-up with their primary physicians at a later date to finish any series.

Can somebody please explain the bold part to me please?

From my understanding, Does it say that i have to get the second one done if I am due to get a second one before I turn in my AOS application??

THANKS!!

It's pretty clear. It means that you must complete as many doses as medically appropriate on (or up to) the medical exam date. In your case, at the time of the exam, you can only receive the first shot, so that's all that you "MUST" receive.

Hi Brightstar,

Send your medical in as-is. When you get to your husband's new duty station you can continue the series and make sure to keep a copy of the vaccination record in case anyone asks for it. You should be able to do this free of charge. You don't have to get it from a civil surgeon. The ACIP never intended that immigrants should be required to get the HPV vaccine. It was a result of the bungled system with unintended consequences. I just read quotes from the chairmen of the ACIP a couple of days ago indicating such. The benefits outweigh the risks, but the expense is an added burden.

Because completion of the vaccine series often requires several months, applicants are not required to have received all doses of the ACIP-recommended vaccines to fulfill the vaccination requirements for adjustment of status to U.S. permanent residence. Rather, they are required to have received at least one dose of each recommended vaccine, and they are encouraged to follow up with their primary health-care provider to complete the series.
