So how many of you will be spending more for the inevitable Christmas shopping season. That, I remind many of you, is when retail goes from the red to the black.

We have decided that we have enough "stuff." So instead we're doing a family dinner out at a nice restaurant and then going to see either Handel's "Messiah" or the PNB's "Nutcracker."

Although that is still fueling money into our economy, we just don't see the point in buying useless ####### for the kids. They'll each get something small (books for my daughter, college stuff for my son, etc) but the "big" gift is our family time. Most people think that's hokey, but we rarely have time (or the money) for big outings like this.

You might as well put money under the mattress. j/k

If only our economy wasn't consumer-drive. And if only people that liked trickling money down to the masses would get that. Oh choices. It should have been a bailout of every single American taxpayer. Then they could prop up the Wall Street types.

Too bad that would be seen as pandering to a leftie model of economics. Oh the irony. Buy buy buy...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

We plan to buy a new couch - apart from that things may be rather thrifty this year...

See... doing your part to keep the market economy afloat. I salute thee.

Well... the new TV may have to wait until next year...

With VJ who needs TV?

Everyone was saying it.

Democrats have now got us into a situation larger than the sub-prime mess. Absolutely no one has suggested how the hell we are going to pay for $700+ billion. Actually both candidates are pushing tax cuts.

Between this in the two wars, the country is financially ######..

9,595.81 wow

I think it's time I pull cash out of US banks..

I don't think anyone knows how we're going to pay for it - I think the rationale is pay for it now with credit freezes, mass bankruptcies and incredible unemployment, or pay later with progressively higher taxes and rising inflation. That's why I say its like cushioning the fall, but the fall is inevitable. Better to crawl away with broken legs than not at all - but clearly its not an ideal state to be in.

This could very well be worse than the last big crash in '29 for the simple reason that we weren't fighting the wars back then. Military spending has more than doubled - its unsustainable. If nothing else - I suspect this will force the hand of the next government to get out of Iraq quickly, and at any cost.

Considering Democrats pushed sub prime loans for minorities and low income households. Thanks but no thanks.

Ah yes...the parroting of the Right Wing pundits and their line of bullsh!t.

It's the Dems fault...not because of deregulation. Hell, we just need more laissez-faire economics to get us out of this mess.

I would like to see how two lawyers are going to fix this. After all the legal industry is a net loss, a huge waste of money for a country.

I agree, lawyers are teh suck.

I'd rather hand over the reins to an absent minded, reckless and undisciplined veteran and his valley girl sidekick!

Correction, she is a hockey mom, not a valley girl. There is a difference.

Irony, indeed.

After all, there are no new Indian immigrants arriving in the US anymore. Last time I was in New Delhi there was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge line in front of the Ozzie embassy and nary a soul in front of the US embassy :innocent:

Any Indians coming to the US now for a job are just stupid. Whereas they will earn good $$$ if they go to AUS.

Maybe we can move the Rio Grande to Australia and you can get overun with illegals.:lol:

China is seriously laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuughing.

Our enemies are probably having a field day.

Unfortunatley that list has grown in the last several years.

CAIRO, Egypt - An American member of al-Qaida pointed to economic troubles in the United States as proof that "the enemies of Islam" face defeat, in an English-language video released Saturday.

...

"A crisis whose primary cause, in addition to the abortive and unsustainable crusades they are waging in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq, is their turning their backs on Allah's revealed laws, which forbid interest-bearing transactions, exploitation, greed and injustice in all its forms."
