Hi,

Can someone guide me as to how I can get an Irish police certificate?

On the Garda website it says:

Persons resident outside of Ireland - apply in writing (by post) to the Superintendent in charge of the District covering the area of your principal place of residence while living in the Republic of Ireland.

The problem is they are asking for a Stamped return envelop. How can I buy Irish stamps from the UK?

I am abit confused.

Can anyone help?

Thanks - Frali

You can usually get a "stamp voucher" from the post office. Basically you go to your local post office and pay them some money, and in return they give you a little slip of paper which you can include with your application, and which the recipient can then take to any post office in their country (Ireland in this case) to get exchanged for whatever an airmail stamp cost.

Alternatively, if you still have friends or family in Ireland, maybe they can send you some stamps.

I could be wrong here but when I headed off to the local Garda station over the border they told me the best thing to do was not contact them or the regional office but to contact their HQ directly. I've also heard that some of the info on their website isn't 100% up to date or accurate. If you can hunt down a number for Garda HQ and talk to someone there about a freedom of information request it might save some time and energy!
