Definitely a matter of supply and demand. The airlines can and will increase the fare because there are so many people who desire to fly.

Try to book a hotel in Times Square on New Year's Eve... it's well over $500 per night. And that's for the rinky dink ones :-)

You could sell a Nintendo Wii on Christmas Eve for double what you paid for it.

Does anyone remember the Tickle Me Elmo things? Those sold for a ridiculous amount because people could not find them...

... oh, my point.... airline tickets will always be more expensive during the holidays. This does not make airlines evil... it makes it a business. They are in it to make money and they must take advantage of these peaks to get them through the valleys when people fly less.

I know this doesn't help your individual situation, but maybe you could look for tickets during the airlines "off season" for your region. And having membership miles as mentioned, is a very good idea.

Good Luck!

I bought my ticket thru www.asaptickets.com and got $1192 from Indianapolis to Manila but I will return December 10th. Might try them and I also get World Perks Miles thru Northwest Airlines and you get free trip with 60,000 miles. I will be up for another free trip after this flight!

I'm not sure where you're flying from or if you have the time but I looked at Continental Airlines from Atlanta to Manila for $1,710/person. The dates for departing and returning were DEC 11 to JAN 10.

My husband would like to travel on 19th of Dec up to 3rd of January.

I haven't stop looking around for cheap tickets.Good for you, you were able

to find this. I will try to look too in Continental.

Yes! I tried checking the site Loving neneng, and I found that one airlines starts their rate from $953. I sent an inquiry to get a full quote of the price.

Did you got the same starting rate of $953 and eventually they gave you $1,192? including taxes?

cos if you have this great deal, we might as well book a flight here.

thanks for the information by the way...

eYep, important to note that ASAPtickets doesn't include tax, fuel charge, and surcharge in their online quotes.

Kind of hard to compare apples to apples. But from the quote I got for for Tokyo, even if it's double it would be a good deal.

I would assume that you already purchased a ticket in Asaptickets.com.

I would say that if their base rate is $953, it would probably climb up until more than a $1k? which is pretty good deal.

Nope...haven't purchased from them...just did a little research.

Fuel surcharge could be as high as $150 each way. The price could go a lot higher than the base price.

I'm not advocating them...but not condemning them either. They've been around at least since 2003, so they must deliver tickets.

I'd still be very cautious of the lowest fares, and not commit without shopping their final price on Orbitz or from the airline directly.

I'm just saying for me...they quoted $500 bucks r/t Chicago to Tokyo. Currently Orbitz lowest price is $1200 bucks. So if I can find $1000,

that's still a good deal.

I totally feel all of your pain! Check this site: www.mobissimo.com. It checks all the airlines plus conglomerates. Just bought my ticket from Copenhagen to DFW at Christmas for under 1000 bucks through a US travel agency at www.vayama.com. It's a British Airways flight, but when you go through them it's over 2000!

I subscribe to all the newsletters of the airlines that fly to Peru. Sometimes they have special deals on flights to Peru. This way I get a notification of when special deals are offered. I also use Yapta http://www.yapta.com/ to track flights and predict when they will be higher or lower. They also tell you how to get some money back if you book a ticket and the prices go cheaper.

Hello and sorry for late reply but I went online to www.asaptickets.com and viewed their rates and as noted this price does not include taxes etc but I noted the reference number they give and then called to confirm total price and the direct line for the kind gentleman who sold me my ticket is 1-800-677-1519. I have used this agent several times without any problem at all and it can all be done online. Only one time could Priceline or others beat the price Asaptickets quotes me. Give them a call and see what they can do. Take care and God bless

We wanted to go to Peru for X-mas and I started looking for prices in Janurary $2500 ( I'm not kidding) and since then the prices were pretty high, we both decided to change our travel plans for the summer and paiD just $800 direct flight NYC-LIM-NYC, not bad right? Hubby told me to check prices for X-mas just in case and are over $3000 so we are happy we went las summer.
