I am sitting and watching BBC America right now and they have a show on about a woman who makes life-like babies. Mostly for women who can't have babies or are too old to have any more. I had never heard of this before. These babies look so real.

Ooh I watched it too. Ok so the blonde woman in her 40's was a complete nut job. The fact that she takes them out in a stroller, buys them very expensive baby clothes, and works her schedule around them is bad enough, but to fly from the UK to the US (with her deranged mother) to actually sit in a hotel room waiting for her "baby" to be "delivered" was just freaky. What about the older woman who wanted a replacement for her grandson who had moved to New Zealand? What was all that about? Hilarious when she showed her new "baby" to her husband who said "I don't like it - it looks like it should be om a mortuary slab". Did anyone notice that most of those dolls were really ugly? These people got to choose what their doll looked like and some of them were hideous. Jeez, at least get a good looking one. Its still freaky but at least it doesn't look like Frankenstein's monster.

an adult wanting to spend time with a babydoll, to me thats just sick! why not spend time with family/friends/ community service/feeding the poor or have a playful cat or dog? Strange people out there in the world!

yeah this is a little creepy but coming from someone who has lost a baby, I can kind of understand where some of those women are coming from...

personally though I wouldn't get one of those dolls ...

After reading the first post here I thought hmmm... interesting but what kind of person would want a *realistic* looking fake baby... and of course the kind of person would be someone willing to form an extremely unhealthy attachment to living in another world mentally... and then I read some of the other posts after looking at the site a little and yeow... batshit crazy people would want these apparently. I didn't read much of the website but the text on the site sounds pretty twisted too... one step away from taxodermy on human babies (perhaps that was their first plan before finding out it'd be kind of illegal). My second thought is... on the front page is a picture of a doll with peirced ears, do people, even crazy people, get their babies ears peirced? Seriously, isn't there like a billion health reasons not to do it without even getting tot he fact that actually doing it in the first place seems cruel... I want a fake baby with a tattoo!... but maybe I'll settle for a real baby with a fake tattoo? Also, the term reborn babies creeps me out a little too... maybe there is some neat story behind the name that makes it not nearly so creepy, but to me it just sounds creepy.

I'm all for doll collectors wanting these, and heck, I'd even find it funny if someone took one of these out for a stroll to mess with people, kind of like fake vomit, fake dog poo, but baby style! (Or just think Jackass... with better props maybe). I'm looking forward to the movie "Reborn", featuring life like murder dolls... though from what people have said most of them are ugly so they'll probably just make another chucky movie... chucky 12: reborn, fuglier than before.

Edit to add: Also, adopting is not necessarily as easy as it sounds, there is a whole range of tests and paperwork to go through, the people who would buy these dolls almost certainly couldn't pass... but there is such a fear of allowing the wrong person to adopt a child or baby that it's apparently a difficult process... I know of more than one person who is in the process and it takes quite a while...

Looked at a few more on the site... and saw Irristable? Does that mean the baby can't be arrested?... in addition to that, most of the babies names make me think of the cheesy stripper introductions... Here's Lovely Linda do her special laying down and staring blankely into space, everyone give a hand to little lizzie preemie for her outstanding performance of immitating a baby that was born way too soon (or is preemie a real name someone would give a baby... I dunno, but if I find one called little retarded raymond with the horrificly lazy eye... I might suspect the people making these dolls are crazy as hell). Virginia Louise looks like a female chucky doll... I think I need to go browse some lolcats to lower my overall creeped outness at the world in general now... thanks creepy doll makers...
