My wife had her interview last week and we didnt get the visa due to her medical exam expiring soon.

My wife got her medical exam before we got married because she thought we needed it. This is before we did any research about the visa etc etc.

Anyway, it expires Oct. 11th our flight is Oct. 20th so we just missed it.

So the lady said everything else looks fine. We just need to mail in the new medical exam, passport and an ex-pack(we forgot to buy one of these the first time)

The thing is, the exray is too big to fit into an expack. How do they mail it back to us? She needs it when we enter the states right?

Also how fast a turn around time is it? Its still two weeks away. Im guessing we send it today, hopefully we get the visa in the mail next Friday?

Any experience on this?

Unless they specifically told you to mail in the x-ray for some reason, you only need to send them the medical exam (report/findings) and the passport. My husband got his passport back a couple of days after his interview (a little different situation than yours as his was for a K-1), but once they have eveything, it usually only takes a few days.

Amastar,

We got it in 6 days after the interview. If you are in Tokyo you should have a good chance with the turn around time. We had a slight problem with getting our Expak500. We actually picked it up at the Embassy.

In July, we were actually waiting a whole week for our Expak500 to make it to Nagoya. We were leaving for the U.S. on July 29th. Our interview was July 22nd. (I know it was a really tight schedule) The Interviewer told us that we were approved and the visa would make it to Nagoya with no problem.

We were going crazy on Saturay and Sunday because it didn't show up and we were supposed to leave on Tuesday. So Monday we tried to call the Japanese Embassy in Tokyo. We got transfered to somebody in Malaysia. I asked for someone who could speak Japanese to my Fiance and they actually had someone in Malaysia who spoke Japanese to my Fiance. They wanted all our informantion over the phone and then someone from the Japanese Embassy would call us back in about 2 1/2 hours or so.

I did that but I also called back the Japanese embassy and I explained that it was very urgent that I speak with someone in the Back room at the Embassy. It took a while but I got transfered to the right person. They told me that they never sent the Visa and asked if I could come pick it up. Since we were leaving the next day we decided to take the 1 1/2 hour Shinkansen trip from Nagoya back to Tokyo. We made it there and got the Passport with the visa in it. ......$400+ extra.

I suspect that our original application had so many pages of backup that it didn't fit in the Expak500. So they just kept it on their desk. We were very lucky to make our plane back to the U.S.

Sorry for the long story,

Matt

Just a quick update.

We went to the post office and mailed the package with medical exam and passport plus an ex-pack inside on Oct. 6th.

We ended up getting the visa mailed back to us on that Saturday, Oct. 11th.

I was super shocked at how fast the turn around time was.

But now we have my wifes visa and the babies two passports and we are ready to go to America next Monday!
