If nothing else - this is certainly a time when strong leadership and direct action are required, as opposed to simply keeping things ticking over. Whether what the major parties are offering will provide that is open to question - and it might be that we have to wait another term for that to sink in and people begin to get really disenchanted with the way things are.

After all it took 4 years for FDR to come along after the 1929 crash to start setting things to rights (and of course the depression factored pretty prominently in Hitler's rise to power).

I keep recalling that the last big economic Crash was accompanied by a vast partly natural disaster, the Dust Bowl, just as the current one comes on the tail of Katrina, Ike and so on. What we didn't have running in the 30's was a vastly expensive war on two fronts. I'm not sure how that factor changes things - but I am inclined to believe that we have the seeds for something very ugly arising in the not too distant future. Now as then - nationalist fringe parties are making gains across Europe (even in formerly liberal countries like Holland), and even in Britain there are elements who want the UK to withdraw entirely from the EU, just as there are people here who want to pull out of the United Nations.

It's hilarious how not one single person so far has replied to the the post that actually stated his qualifications for president.

Reminds me of a certain governor's performance in a certain televised debate.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Lol, no, I am well acquainted with VJ. I rarely post because so many posters (on both sides) tick me off so much with their stupid rambling and I've had about enough of internet debates.

My point exactly.

It just seems like Obama has more total morons rooting for him than McCain has.

What a convincing argument you put forth.

Oh you live in DC ?

No, but that makes no difference.

Just because I see tons of McCain/Palin signs in front of crappy trailer homes around here while I see no Obama/Biden signs in front of such properties wouldn't lead me to make a statement along the lines that McCain's supporters tend to live in crappy trailers more so than Obama's supporters.

And just because there were some sharp Obama supporters coming through our neighborhood last weekend to talk to residents about the Obama/Biden ticket and their platform while no such delegation from the McCain camp has ever made it through doesn't lead me to say that it just seems that there are more very sharp campaign workers hitting the street on behalf of Obama than for McCain.

Both would be generalizations that make no sense. Just as yours doesn't make any sense.

ok....so I'm not exactly a fan of Obama and Biden, but I'm also not excited by McCain and Palin. I am however prepared for an attack on this one..... maybe it is just DC, but Obama supporters here seem to share their IQ with their shoe size. There were the people who claimed that if "whites" didn't vote for Obama, it meant they were racist. There were also the two young adults walking through my neighborhood pulling down McCain posters to be replaced by Obama ones (they clearly didn't account for the possibility that the homeowners might just remove them - duh). And finally, the woman in Giant (pikey foodstore) who had gone to the trouble of having a t-shirt printed that said...."Obama & BIEDEN 2008". I just have nothing in common with these people (thankfully). Its like watching something on tv where you feel embarrassed just by watching.

reminds me of the McCain / Palin supporter who kept speeling her name Paulin....there's dummy supporters on both sides

And don't forget, McCain has the dubious distinction of garnering the redneck vote.

Nothing says "I'm one of you guys" better than informal, folksy dialog ;)

I do not speak like that, so I guess I'm not one of her ilk... I am just a well educated elitist liberal with proper grammar and appropriate public speaking manners. Shame on me
