What Qualifies Obama to be President of the US?

And, just to be a smart ###, the qualifications to be president of the US are: natural born US Citizen, 35 years of age, residing in the US for at least 14 years prior to election. Those are the qualifications as stated by our constitution.

Damn, if I had known that I could have run. Oh, well, there's always 2012. Maybe I'll start my campaign now, like Obama did in 2004.

Those are the qualifications as stated by our constitution. But I don't think you're asking "qualifications" in that sense, so perhaps you should clarify what you mean? You're asking for something in particular, but hedging the issue, apparently. Why don't you just spell it out?

This has been the joke of "qualifications" and "experience" the entire time.

Entirely ambiguous (look at how "experience" is directly proportionate to which party they're voting for) and subject to one's own personal beliefs of experience by politically contrived motives to justify their own vote.

I also love the constant #######-talk by conservatives here on VJ. If I prefer Obama over McCain, I'm a "sheep"? That's so childish. To assume a person is blindly following simply because you don't happen to like their candidate of choice is just ridiculous. It's like throwing sand in a sandbox.

Some people on here are a hoot, that's for sure :)

My conservative ####### talk is in response to the real sheep. I have never implied that anyone who prefers Obama over McCain is a sheep. And you are so right, some people on here are a hoot.

I asked about Obama's record and what his major acomplishments were a while back and all the sheep told me to go look it up myself. Not one example was given. So I went and looked. He is trying to get Rosa Parks on a postage stamp. Is that considered Presidential material? Biden is much more qualified to be President than Obama. The Dems got the ticket backwards. The media didn't like Hillary, so Obama got all the favorable press. His whole campaign is a verbal promise with no track record of showing the ability to get the job done. He talks, the sheep follow. I have some good ideas too, think anyone will vote for me??

Yup the right wingers on this forum are total hypocrites. They challenge the "liberals" to come up with facts & when they do they are ignored. They accuse the "liberals" of blindly following a candidate while many of them are doing exactly the same thing. They make inaccurate, often flat out wrong, statements but somehow claim the intellectual high ground, accusing those darn "liberals" of being dumb. Their only rebuttal to anything is to filter out anything that doesn't support their position & call anyone else a liberal.

News flash: Millions of people who will vote for Obama are not liberals. They are from the middle class- Joe six pack & soccer moms as Palin would put it. The vast majority are not elitist, out of touch left wingers. The fraction of the Obama supporters who are far left are balanced out by the far right, so these two groups cancel each other out. Like I have said many times this election will be won or lost by gaining the vote of the non-committed moderates. The mud slinging & rhetoric directed towards the "liberals" on this forum is cartoonish.

Yep. I think it's frustrating to some of the people here who are exactly what they profess to hate (namely, fanatical followers, albeit opposite of the "libruls") that there are those of us who are relatively moderate and won't vote for McCain/Palin.

Also, I choose not to get into a 'conversation' (and I lose that term very loosely) about my reasons for voting for Obama because those who request such information truly don't care. A thread stating "what qualifies Obama to be President of the US? I don't get it. Educate me." Is clearly tongue in cheek and not actually asking for any true information, but rather existing as another forum for one side to bash, belittle, and besmirch (just wanted to use that word) the other side.

A serious discussion about presidential qualifications would be to first find a consensus of what those qualifications are and then use that in the context of past presidential candidates to see where the current candidates stand. When you do that, VW, you'll see how painfully obvious that your attempt at disqualifying Obama as not presidential material is ridiculous. You don't like Obama because of the policies and ideas he stands behind...it's that simple. You continue to sidestep that argument because you know that on the issues, at least this time around, the Democratic Party's platform and the Democratic ticket of Obama/Biden is in step with what the American people want. They want universal healthcare. They want us out of Iraq. They want us to address Global Warming...etc, etc. This particular presidential race isn't going to be won or lost on personality or qualifications, it's going to be won or lost on which ticket offers the American people the best ideas to move forward. The old partisan, rhetoric of liberal vs. conservative just doesn't apply...particularly in light of the recent bipartisan bailout. We're beyond being stuck on ideological arguments...this is about ideas.

Nicely said.

WOW! :wow:

I've been away for three hours and ither than the predicatable blaming, bickering and name-calling, there is still NOTHING offered to explain Obama's appeal over other candidates. What is up with that? You would think that with all the bellyaching about Palin - which implies that people do have standards - there would be some standards for prefering Obama.

But NO, apparently NOT. There seems to be no coherent reason to vote for Obama except that he is a very liberal ** and requires no other discernment beyond that.

I get it now.

You don't get anything VW... I gave you several examples... you just see the 5% you want to see... there is no hope for you. Moreover hardly anyone is even mentioning Palin. You are absolutely the most close-minded person that posts here (maybe Rogue is as bad, but that's it). I feel sorry for you, I really do.

I get more than you think I do. I'm hardly the most close-minded person here, that honor belongs several of to the hateful libs here, but you don't want to see that.

Just to make it easy, let me offer a clear and simple format for presenting Obama's positive points:

1. I like Obama because _____________________

2. I like Obama because _____________________

3. I like Obama because _____________________

4. I like Obama because _____________________

5. I like Obama because _____________________

6. I like Obama because _____________________

and so on.

I hope that helps.
