I support the policy platform even though I'm not convinced that Obama can deliver on it. Perhaps Clinton would have been a better choice (though I'm not really convinced of that). What we need is a modern day FDR, not people who use high-sounding rhetoric to get elected.

McCain's policies just aren't in my self-interest.

And yes - I don't think his VP protege has the brains necessary for the job (as indeed - GWB didn't and doesn't).

(and again for 593rd time a vast majority of Obama supporters are NOT liberals).

Prove it.

You and your buddies here completely abuse the term "liberal"... basically whenever someone disagrees with you your knee-jerk reaction is to call them a liberal (often not even knowing what their political views are). For example (and I am just thinking of topics as they come to mind, it's late & I am tired):

- I am for the Death Penalty (generally not a liberal viewpoint).

- I am pro-life for the most part (certain exceptions like rape... abortion shouldn't be a casual form of birth control IMO).

- I believe in a balance between free business & protecting the environment (without the environment nothing else really matters).

- I believe in a strong national defense (but the Bush doctrine is a failure); the DIME approach is the way to go (Diplomacy, Information, Military, Economics).

- Obama & McCain have nearly identical views on immigration and I pretty much agree with their policies on this.

- I believe that those making under $250,000 deserve a tax break but those over 250K could probably pay more (Obama policy).

- I believe in basic health care for kids & preventative care for adults (but not a socialized system).

- I believe in rights for gay couples but not gay marriage (civil union is a legal distinction, gay marriage a religious distinction). Obama & McCain generally agree on this as well.

Can't think of other views right now, I'm going to bed! Contrary to popular belief some Obama supporters work

I agree with everything you've said...in a round about way.

I believe the death penalty has it's merits - why should tax payers pay to keep proven murderers who will never be released back into society in state funded facilities? They took a life....i'm not religious so I may get this quote wrong, but what about eye for an eye? (and yes I realise that could start a debate all of it's own which is not my intent...)

Regarding the 'pro life' debate. I am a firm believer in a womans right to chose. It's my body and if I do not want to have a child, or carry one, then why should I? Having said that I do not think abortion should be a casual form of birth control. Accidents happen though, and I don't think we should be made to have a child that isn't wanted. What kind of life would that child have? Adoption isn't always viable either - why should a woman suffer the health effects of a pregnancy she doesn't want?

My views on 'right to choose' are very strong and one of the main reasons I would never vote for McCain (if I had a vote that is)

Everything else you listed, I think is 100% spot on!

McSame is not a angel, he is a major big part of the crisis we are in now, was for dereg the banks. He is just trying to tosss anything out to distract from this crisis.

Though. it is very devious of the democrats to blame it all on regulation and not on the fact that the Democrats / Clinton Admin pushed for easier access to loans by minorities and low income households.

what happened to caring about the average joe? that isn't important to the republicans today?

Unfortunately, its rused in the old "work hard, reap the benefits" mantra that no matter how much you actually see in real life, fails to actually become something quantifiably accurate.

Easier access to loans is really not the cause of the problem, not if one is being honest. If the loans are properly funded there is no reason that low income families can't repay them but to put these people on mortgages that are closer related to loan shark loans than anything remotely resembling a decent mortgage plan is not only disingenuous, but is inevatibly ruinous to the general population. Someone has to pay for loan defaults, and it isn't going to be the people who become impoverished.

Low income families pay rent - it is not unreasonable to suppose that they could pay a loan that approximated the rent if the mortgage system was properly regulated and mortgages properly fitted the requirements and needs of the buyer.

Again, what I simply don't understand is why people are so keen to allow a system that enables anyone to get into a situation that they can't sustain and prefer to be able to 'punish' those who get into trouble when they do so, rather than preventing them from geting into trouble in the first place. It's like there are a portion of society that need the satisfaction of watching some people fail. How bizarre is that?

Perhaps these same people would prefer that the banks be unregulated and any loan is subject to any kind of conditions so they can watch yet more people become ovewhelmed by unaffordable debt? Nice thought.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

i'm tired of hearing how the republicans understand the average person and then try and blame the democrats for supporting them... like um... what?

at the end of the day, who is in power now? and when are things going wrong? the $hit is hitting the fan right now, not 8 years ago.

Politicians generally are out of touch with "regular" people.

They have been on some weird planet for too long.

yeah they're probably living in the burbs in gated communities far away from normality.

i just feel it is an insult to my intelligence that republicans think they have a clue about the average person and yet here they are insulting those who have tried to help them.

I don't see it. Educate me.

I don't think it is possible to educate a POS but here goes: As has already been stated "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States".[/b] Link

OK so he is qualified. Next stupid question...

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensedregistered pharmacist". (because somebody gives a damn)
