So finally after 19 pages or whatever, I'll put in my two cents' worth on Obama. I am a registered Democrat, but I never vote for the party, rather for the person who I think will do the best job. I have voted Republican in the past. But this time around, though I do have respect for McCain's military service and his time in a POW camp, I don't think that qualifies him to be president. As well, it is entirely possible that he will not live out his presidential term, should he be elected. I do NOT want a woman running my country who does not have a handle on foreign or economic policy, and who cannot articulate simple sentences or answers to straightforward questions. I have absolutely nothing against a woman running the country, just not this woman.

So yes, not liking the other side is part of the factor in my decision. As well, I do want someone who is educated and who can hold his own with the leaders of other countries in a conversation (or a crisis should that happen). He doesn't have a lot of experience, but there have been plenty of leaders without much experience when they started who have ended up being great. I think Biden can only enhance Obama, whereas I think Palin can only hurt McCain.

I am one of "the people" and I don't want the same government who fouls up immigration and the "oversight" of financial markets to manage my health care. I don't believe that humans either create or can control global warming because geological history is a hobby of mine, so I'm aware of massive catastrophies over time that did little to destroy the planet. Some may have the ego or the stupidity to believe that we will be the saviors of the earth, but I'm not among them.

The Obama phenomenon is all about the cult of personality. That's why you are having such a hard time telling me why a little known, short term Senator from the Chicago machine who has not proven to be a self-professed unitor is qualified to get my vote.

A serious discussion about presidential qualifications would be to first find a consensus of what those qualifications are and then use that in the context of past presidential candidates to see where the current candidates stand. When you do that, VW, you'll see how painfully obvious that your attempt at disqualifying Obama as not presidential material is ridiculous. You don't like Obama because of the policies and ideas he stands behind...it's that simple. You continue to sidestep that argument because you know that on the issues, at least this time around, the Democratic Party's platform and the Democratic ticket of Obama/Biden is in step with what the American people want. They want universal healthcare. They want us out of Iraq. They want us to address Global Warming...etc, etc. This particular presidential race isn't going to be won or lost on personality or qualifications, it's going to be won or lost on which ticket offers the American people the best ideas to move forward. The old partisan, rhetoric of liberal vs. conservative just doesn't apply...particularly in light of the recent bipartisan bailout. We're beyond being stuck on ideological arguments...this is about ideas.

I asked how Obama is qualified to be president. He has been a student, "community organizer", partner of convicted fraud artist Tony Rezko, on a couple of boards with terrorist William Ayers, a law professor, a self-serving part time state legislator, author of two pretentious autobiographies, and an ineffectual US Senator since 2005. We hear little about notable accomplishments gained in any of those roles.

He is a product of the corrupt Chcago machine, has no administrative experience, no track record of integrity, has done nothing significant to lend confidence that he can do what he says in the soaring and lyrical oratory that has proven to be his best asset.

He's an Empty Suit, but that matters little coz he's not a Republican. Lucky us.
