This seems to be the case from many who are idolizing Obama. Hey I like him and would even recommend voting for him, but I will not blindly follow any American leader until they have proven themselves.

This country has gone down the toilet because of disingenuous leaders who look after their own self interests first. It certainly does not need any more. In a matter of 20 years, the country has gone from first world to second world. After this financial mess, rapidly heading towards third world. Shame on the American leaders and shame on the fools who blindly vote for them.

A serious discussion about presidential qualifications would be to first find a consensus of what those qualifications are and then use that in the context of past presidential candidates to see where the current candidates stand. When you do that, VW, you'll see how painfully obvious that your attempt at disqualifying Obama as not presidential material is ridiculous. You don't like Obama because of the policies and ideas he stands behind...it's that simple. You continue to sidestep that argument because you know that on the issues, at least this time around, the Democratic Party's platform and the Democratic ticket of Obama/Biden is in step with what the American people want. They want universal healthcare. They want us out of Iraq. They want us to address Global Warming...etc, etc. This particular presidential race isn't going to be won or lost on personality or qualifications, it's going to be won or lost on which ticket offers the American people the best ideas to move forward. The old partisan, rhetoric of liberal vs. conservative just doesn't apply...particularly in light of the recent bipartisan bailout. We're beyond being stuck on ideological arguments...this is about ideas.

As for being an attention #######, I never started a thread to whine about you like you did to whine about me. Odd, I've never had a compulsion to focus on you. Well, you're over dramatizing just a bit - we're a way away from the third world. But yes, the country has gone down the crapper over the last couple of decades with a bit of relief in the middle. George H. W. Bush called the ill approach to the economy that the GOP has subscribed to at least since Reagan quite properly "voo-doo economics" - before joining Reagan on the ticket. Trickle down and deregulate at all cost is a losing strategy. A blind man with half a brain can see and understand that. What we don't need is a continuation of those failed policies and principles.

As for people putting themselves first: You don't get to run as a candidate on either party's ticket if you don't. Look at McCain. His established record of over two decades, all his positions and stances: gone. Changed to their polar opposites so he can finally run for President on the GOP ticket. Don't tell me that you honestly believe this "Country First" ####### that he had written on his flag. You're not that naive.

I think the tone of the responses speak to the MO of the poster who started the thread (i.e. it wasn't started for honest reasons).

You don't really care about Obama's qualifications. How could you - when you see fit to justify your own choice on the basis of general ideology. Specifically - vote for a conservative regardless of who is wearing the label.

If GWB could run indefinitely I have a feeling you'd vote for him into perpetuity.
