How can I get from LHR to King's Cross Station ???

How long it takes ... half day or more? I mean by public transportation.

Arriving to LHR need to catch a train to up north. I could get a rental car but I must admit I am affraid of driving on the "correct" side of the road ;)

Thanks in advance everyone...

I think you can catch a train from heathrow on the picadilly line to kings cross, there may be changes though. I may be wrong and I'm sure people will correct me.

Here's a link to showing the train network, just click on it to zoom in. Heathrow is in the bottom left corner

2 hours with a bit of margin, I am cheap so would use the Tube.

Half a day!!?? No, not even London Underground is that bad! It's simple: Heathrow to Kings Cross, Piccadilly Line - that easy.

It's that easy. You don't need half a day but give yourself a good 2-3 hours to get there.

Or you can get the Heathrow Express.

Yep, and that would be quicker - for you and me that understand the London Underground. Remember, the OP wants to get to Kings Cross, not Paddington, and it's their first time. For someone that doesn't have an earthly , the simple route (involving no changes at all) is the Picadilly Line. And Nicky, 2-3 hours!!!??? Did you have a bad experience or something!!?? Nah - 1 hour, tops.

Thank you guys!!! I really appreciate your input.

It is my 17 yo daughter who will be traveling to visit my brother in Aberdeen, taking a train from Kings Cross.

It's good to know first hand experience from you.

Another question, maybe silly, but :( Are British trains safe? I mean will she be able to leave her luggage in one car and go to the dining car without any worries?

They're as safe as any Amtrak trains, bro. Or trains in any other developed country. Point being, that there's a 90%+ chance that any luggage she leaves in the overhead storage will be fine, but there's no guarantee.

And dining car!!?? Nope, no dining car unless she's taking the Caledonian overnight sleeper (and if memory serves correct, that on;y leaves from Euston).

well, no offence please!

I am looking at that from my country point of view. In Poland, sorry to say, but your luggage is safe as long as you have a police man next to it.

According to National Express Coast there is some place to eat on the train. :)

And I am amazed :) Heatrow Express from LHR to Paddington GBP 15.90 kinda expensive comparing to rail ticket from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen GBP 17.00 including trip insurance. Whoaaaa.... do they carry passengers by in/out the HE in golden chariots serving lobster or what?

That is why I use the Tube, 17 quid must be some sort of super saver, very cheap.

Buffet Car is probably what you are thinking of.

Suitcases etc can go with the Guard, there are racks for luggage in the end of each coach.

I would not leave valuables alone. I would not do that anywhere.

You'll be on the East coast mainline! Say hello to my hometown Berwick for me when the train stops there... :D

There will be a dining car on the train in first class. Its not cheap! But for a trip that long, its worth using it.

You got a good deal on your KX to Aberdeen fare. Its usaually well over GBP100. I was lucky to get it for GBP14 when I was going down for the Medical/interview.

Safe travels!
