Had a discussion about music with my SO this morning and he wants some grunge music played at the reception. For you who are like me and know very little about it, it sounds like somebody is skinning a cat (or maybe I just had a misfortune to hear some, to be polite about it, not so good ones ;)). He says it's his wedding too, which is perfectly valid statement too.

So I need some help here. Would you want to have grunge music played at your wedding?

This poll will either work in his or mine favour :) and hopefully we could come to some sort of compromise how many grunge songs should be played at the wedding (contemplating on running away now while I still have time  ).

Many thanks everybody.

Well marriage is supposed to be a compromise ha ha

I love grunge but not mad on Thrash metal which he loves, we are going to have a rock theme wedding but I am sure that the older family members will not be happy headbanging along to it haha

But what I would say is have a mix so everyone has something

Sorry I am not on your side but let him have some grunge, some of it is beautiful, I am actually thinking of getting married to Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam go check it out, if you need any more help with the lighter side of grunge give me a shout.

Mazel Tov on your fothcoming marriage

Well, I’ve asked. Just because I don't like it, it doesn't mean others won't. :) This poll is for me to find out how many people like this sort of music and if there are more then I expected, then he can have a longer session of it :D . I already have industrial size ear plugs so I'm planning on putting them to a good use B) . The wedding photos should look interesting though .

I would definitely say no to this one. I appreciate that he has his particular tastes, but I don't think the majority of your wedding guests would appreciate grunge music. Whilst I am sure that some of the guests, maybe your husband's friends, would appreciate this, the majority of family etc probably won't. In my experience you either love grunge or you hate it. Weddings to me are fun filled events, with people being a bit drunk on the dancefloor and all the old corny tunes being played. I just think you could clear a dance floor in 3 seconds playing grunge music - I'm not sure its that easy for most to dance to. Anyway, that's my tuppence worth.

I've with you on that one all the way !!

OK, so far I got 1 for and 1 against (shouldn't really count myself in, should I? Unless I become desperate :P)

Well I've just got your PM but I don't think you're gonna like what I say!! Sorry, can't be doing with grunge - it's either classic rock, or metal for me. I rate grunge about as much as I rate nu-metal - not very much!!

And don't tell me that you don't like thrash metal, you lying little Stinky Monkey!!! Or were you lying when you told me in a PM you loved Slayer??? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!???? I'm sure a certain Mr Billy would be fascinated to hear your veiwpoints on that too!!!

To the OP: seriously, if it's a big family wedding (with lots of old people and stuff) then it'd be disrespectful to play #### they just don't get. I mean, if was down to me, I'd be playing everything from Johnny Cash to Slayer at my wedding, but my old mum's gonna be there, so it'll be Matt Monro and Nat King Cole - you with me?

Oh well I was trying to help...............

Ok so I lied I am a Metal head ha ha you caught me out, and dont you dare tell Chuck that at the wedding, I was trying to ease her in gently, well that was my plan till you blew it ha ha ha

Well my wedding will be disrespectfull but I will be handing out ear plugs ha ha while I am turning the music up.............and working on having bands playing maybe I might put a warning on the wedding invites

:) Oh, I'm with you there. The only problem is that my h2b is saying that all his family like this stuff. I've got my doubts about his father liking it but I've met the whole family and they are off centre enough to just like that noise. :(

But thanks for the advice.

I agree! It's his wedding too. ;)

The wedding celebration isn't to appease the guests.. it's for the bride and the groom and far too many people forget that.

If he want's some grunge then there needs to be compromise. ;)

Rock on.

I went to a wedding where the bride & groom took the approach that it was their wedding and therefore the music they wanted that other people didn't like would be played regardless. Thrash metal and grunge ruled the night. Let me tell you, that wedding hall cleared out very early. We left at 9 and there were few people left beyond the wedding party, pretty much the bewildered and embarrassed looking parents & grandparents of the happy couple.

Seems like a big waste to invite so many people only for them to leave early cos they are having a miserable time.

Yes its your day, but you are expecting guests to be there for you and bring you a gift. You should take all that into consideration. It should be a fun & pleasant experience for most. JMHO

Absolutely correct, julez, especially the bit about the bewildered parents and grandparents. Like I said in my earlier post, I simply couldn't do it to my older relatives. It's about respect, not appeasment.
