I know this question has been asked over and over but I am getting so cranky!, waiting is so hard!, every day I go to pick up my mail and...nothing...any hopes that I might get my interview appointment soon? Sent my N-400 at the end of August, had my biometrics done 15 days ago exactly. I know you guys are probably thinking I'm just insane but I kinda hope you guys could give me some words of encouragement?... Thank you

Not only the interview, but the the oath ceremony that follows it. The key motivation for us to go through all that N-400 stuff was the I-751 fiasco, transferring our file all over the country, wrong processing dates, and here with an expired green card with a one year extension notice no other governmental agencies had knowledge of. But it finally came in two months after we filed the N-400. We were assured that after applying for USC, our bout with the USCIS would be over.

A sense of security for my wife in that with her new ten year green card and renewed foreign passport, could visit her family at any time, but can't do that with a one year extension notice that is within days of expiring, can't work either. Have to say, everything went well for us with exception of the I-751, that was stressful, and that kind of stress, you don't need.

Took a little over 3 1/2 months from our N-400 application to her interview, that went very fast by USCIS standards since we were told would take more like a year, those listed processing dates are still inaccurate, we applied at the end of March, and St. Paul this morning is showing January 03, 2008, we should still be waiting for her interview notice. Application was received 31Mar08, interview was 17Jul08. Was a happy few seconds when she passed only to realize we were in a state of limbo again, when the oath ceremony, and how long to get her US passport?

Her foreign passport is marginal again for coming back, and postponing the oath ceremony can add months or years, so again you are left in a state of stress of not knowing. That added another two months of stress for us until her US passport finally arrived, even wish we didn't apply for USC, at least with had stability with the ten year card. Wife's mom is not in the best of health and the thought of not seeing her one more time caused stress.

Your wait depends much upon which field office you are with, can doubleclick your field office and seek other board members in your locale and see how they are doing. Just a tiny handful in St. Paul for us.

Instead of using the month the application was filed, should narrow that down to the field office, but with 81 of them, may be hard to find.

ya gotta be patient, lol I had my biometrics in early July, and received my interview letter near the end of Sept (Oct 15 interview date) Of course it all depends which office you are going to some are faster/slower than others. best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Did Ike make it up to Buffalo? Did make it up to WI, but just a breeze, but with plenty of rain. Wife doesn't know whom to vote for, feels they are both lying, just said, she can write my name in, we still have that option in our state, none of that electronic #######. Grandpa is from Italy, thanks to a very high res goggle earth, could find the path he took to meet my grandma. We live in a low res area, can barely find my home.

Hope you get a chance to vote, the USC can request your congressman or senator make an inquiry for you, just tell him/her, your spouse's vote may be the one that gets him re-elected. I learned our field office in St. Paul can whip out a certificate of naturalization in about a minute.

My words of encouragement are: BE PATIENT. IT WILL HAPPEN!

We sent my husband's N-400 at the beginning of August. 2007. Just last week-end he received his interview letter. It's very frustrating, I know, when you see other people getting their notices, etc., but at the end of the day there's nothing you can do about it. Hang in there and let the system work - :)

Ives, we were sent down to the Milwaukee Field Office a couple of times for biometrics at 310 East Knapp Street Milwaukee, WI 53202. Is that all they do there? Is very small compared to St. Paul, just saw the waiting room and the biometrics room, no other offices, and the people that were there were only for biometrics. Seems like anyone with a 544xx zip code that covers most of Central and Northern WI, goes to St. Paul

Not easy waiting for that I-751 green card when you employee starts advertising for a job for your position, and the State of WI refuses to renew your driver's license especially when you have friends that had that application lost. Then reading about people here that got chewed out for making an infopass appointment more than 30 days before their one year extension ran out. Can only make that appointment within two weeks and see on the net where every appointment slot is filled, that was frustrating.

Then you read that Emilio stated due to the fee increase, they received over 3 million applications for USC causing a major jam. Did anyone here watch the fee charges on the USCIS site, just waiting for years until a fee increase is announced? Thought most people applied when they were eligible, even though a couple of years ago the wait was like two years for the N-400 and paid whatever the fee was when eligible. Well that 3 million turned out to be more like 0.6 million, and the American Board of Immigration Attorneys managed to get Emilio replaced as head of the USCIS.

Did find a pre-Emilio N-400 on the web where all the questions were written in proper English. When received our receipt notice for the N-400, thought that 288 days was a drastic improvement, just filed that, was a lot more concerned about getting our green cards at that time.

How would it be if you went into your DMV office and was told you have to wait 14 months before your driver's license would be renewed? And your job depends on you having a valid license. This is what the USCIS pulled on us and thousands more, and didn't like that at all. But what is the rush with USC? Maybe by not being the least bit concerned, it was all over in a little over five months.

The following was not written by the ABIA.

"Release Date: March 13, 2008

For Immediate Release

Office of the Press Secretary

Contact: 202-282-8010

Emilio Gonzalez has informed me of his intention to resign as Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), effective April 18. Emilio has been an extraordinary director who is leaving an indelible mark on the transformation and modernization of USCIS operations.

Emilio is an American by choice and he has brought that unique experience to his leadership of this critical agency, and more importantly to our nation’s unparalleled efforts to welcome immigrants and foster their integration into our society. During his tenure, Emilio oversaw important efforts to improve customer service and modernize the agency’s operations to further strengthen the security and integrity of the immigration system well into the 21st century. He has led efforts to ensure the reliability of processes for international adoptions. Emilio also undertook great steps to expedite the naturalization of immigrant servicemen and women defending and protecting our nation from harm. I had the special opportunity of traveling with him to Iraq as part of a naturalization ceremony for more than 170 of those brave members of the armed services.

Prior to joining the department in 2005, Emilio served as the Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the National Security Council. He also had a distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Army.

I am grateful for Emilio’s contributions to America’s rich tradition of welcoming newcomers and to his deep commitment of service to the American public. I look forward to our continued friendship."

Jonathan Scharfen is the new director, is name is on my wife's certificate of naturalization. Appears to be doing a much better job.
