Guys, I failed my driving test here coz I can't parallel park, ok, say it's coz I'm a girl lol

But sorry, I can't!What bugs my mind is that we live in a city that has more parking spots than actual people living around and I've never even seen a spot that you need to park like this.Did you need to do that in your driving tests too?

I think it's completely unnecessary considering there's no need to parallel park ANYWHERE in the city, so why would they ask me to?That kindda sux, hubby tried to teach me but I can't say I learned nor that I'm any good at it lol, so what to do?I don't wanna fail again, do you think it varies between different branches, coz there are a bunch of them here that I can try, I'm not sure if the lady asks everyone to do so, or if it was just me, coz she was a b!atch from the beginning talking about Mexicans and such like I have anything to do with them or illegal immigrants, maybe I just got a lady that hated foreigners and wanted a reason to fail me?Or is it really required?I really don't wanna have to do it, specially coz I don't need to do parallel park anywhere. Please let me know if it was any different from yours!

You should try a couple lessons from a diving school. a good teacher will have you at ease and parallel parking in no time. you can get into a much tighter parking spot using parallel parking than just trying to pull into the space. and there is always a chance you will drive in places other than the town or city you live in... good luck. and maybe rent a compact car for the test.

Hi raphandarrin,

Parallel parking is required! You have to practice a lot like everyday. We live in Texas and I never driven before. I passed the written test only once then my hubby sent me to the driving school coz he was so busy and he's tired when he came home from work. I learn lots of things and technique from my driving instructor. The parallel parking is very difficult specially if you didn't know any technique. I failed the first time... I was so nervous and the DPS lady was not friendly it make me more nervous! I was very frustrated but never give up! I relaxed for 2 weeks then start to practice again everyday for 2 weeks and finally retake the driving test for second time. To my surprised I perfect my parallel park and passed the test.

Don't give up just practice everyday and I'm sure you can do it too!:thumbs:

 Good luck!

Cheers!

I hate parallel parking! And I rarely have to do it. My husband had to learn for his driving test, so we went to the DMV after hours and he just practiced at the testing area over and over and over. I don't know what counts as failing in your state. Here, you can bump the curb, but you can't go up on it. You can tap the barrier in front or in back, but you can't hit it hard enough to move it at all. When I tested for my own license a million years ago, I tested in the same car I learned in (driver's ed car) and I just lined up certain landmarks in the window so I could do it the same way each time. Perhaps that would help. But practice and more practice is what it takes.

FWIW, a couple of weeks ago, I had no choice but to parallel park. I did such a bad job that my husband (who has had his license for two months) made me get out of the car and he finished the job himself. So become an expert, and then put the rest of us to shame. You can do it. Good luck.

I didn't have to parallel park for my driving test, but life here would be very difficult not knowing how to parallel park!

It just takes practice. I couldn't do it very well until I moved to a place with on-street parallel parking only. You've got to get the hang of knowing exactly when you have to turn the wheel straight again.

What the lady said was that I would fail if:

-I touched the curb

-I went up in the curb

-The car wasn't between 10-15 inches from the car in front of me

-If the wheels weren't aligned

-If I didn't put the car on park after I was done

-If the car wasn't in a straight line

-If the car was more than 10 or less than 5 inches of the curb

Now you imagine my complete madness when she brought up all that when I didn't even know I had to do it, I almost fainted I was sweating so much the seat got wet and it was winter time HAHAHAHA I talked to a couple people in here and got different answers, most of them didn't need to, some of them did and one of them was asked if she knew how, she said not really and the guy said fine but you gotta learn, ok?hahaha

I wish my tester, or whatever the b!itchy lady is called, was like that lol

according to my husband.,You don't have any choice. Parallel parking is one of the test procedures to get a license. If you are really interested in getting a driver license., stop whinning, practice and learn how to parrallel park. You will see how important it is coz there's those places that have no available parking spot except parrallel park. and that's one of the most important requirement to get a driver license otherwise you have to learn how to ride a bus.

Same thing with me., right now I dont have an ead yet but I was able to get a learner's permit even without ssn. Coz here in washington., you can get a license without ssn and ead just by signing a social security declaration form. So right now he's teaching me how to drive. I keep on whinning all the time and he often yells at me and told me that I don't have a choice because I'm in a different country now and If I want to be a permanent resident here., then I should abide by the laws. And if I want to be a successful citizen here., well I should do whatever it takes and besides youi're lucky because you already know how to drive. All you have to learn is to parrallel park. Compared to me., I'm just starting to learn driving lol. So goodluck!!!!

Plus I've been living here for 1 year and 2 months, never needed to parallel park and don't think I'll be an unsuccessful citizen because of that, I don't know if you meant what you wrote, but there's no need to be rude like that.

Sorry If you think I'm rude but as I have said., its "according to my husband because he read your post and he was like "why is she complaining" and he told me the same way because evrytime he's teaching me to drive., I was like., "why should I learn to parrallel park"? you know what I mean? but now I understand that its really their rules so we can't do anything about it.

And I'm not being rude to you. I was just trying to tell you that were on the same boat. Even if you live here for over a year., and yes definitely in my opinion you can't be a successful citizen if you can't parralel park. I may be stupid to you. but for a reason that if you can't parrallel park there is no way you can get your driver's license and therefore you can't drive unless you may want to just ride a bus. and be a successful citizen just by riding a bus? And having an excuse that you can't do parrallel parking that's why.

And you know what., you're telling me your not whining? yes you are! because you were complaining why you fail the driving test because you can't parrallel park. and for a reason of posting your problem here trying to get opinions from the vj'rs., isn't that complaining or isn't that whining?.,proving all of us here that parrallel parking is not that important and here I am just giving you advice because I thought we were in the same situation but you're telling me I'm rude?I may be rude now. But I just want to know that we are all in adjustment of status and and it doesn't matter how long are you staying here. The fact that we are all non permanent residents still wating for aprrovals meaning., you should know how to meet their requirements atleast.

And you also told us that you don't really wanna have to do it? read your post again and now tell me your not whining.

my wife has trouble with this, too.

go to the DMV testing station and watch soem other people take the test. follow them around the block so you can see what they have to do. it usually involves a couple of stop signs and a few turns, but not until the parallel park is done first.

most testing locations work tuesday to saturday in penna, so a person can go and practice in the actual test site on sundays and mondays if they want. see if you can do that in your location.

Your posts in this thread are examples of textbook whining. Call the WAAAAAAAAABulance.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Parallel parking isnt hard, just take a a bit of practice and a positive mind set. If you put ur mind to it, i bet in 15 minutes you would have it down pat!! Just google Parralle parking tips and i bet you will come up with tons of good tips and videos. U just need to find a decent teacher. be positive, u can do it

http://www.ehow.com/video_1872_parallel-park.html

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Whether parallel parking is required for the test probably depends on your state, and maybe even your locality.

When I took my driving test, I lived in a town of 5,500 people, surrounded by a lot of empty farmland. Our small town was the county seat, the largest town in the county, and we had the only stoplight in the county. One could easily get by in that area without ever having to parallel park, and it seemed kind of stupid to require it. But parallel parking was on the list of things they tested on the driver's test, so I learned how to do it, and passed the test.

Now, I live in a much more urban area. Parallel parking is often needed. I do it all the time, and I'm glad I learned how.

My suggestion: You're not going to eliminate the requirement, so just learn how to do it and have fun learning. Set some cones up or garbage pails, or something else that won't damage your car too much if you run into it at low speed. Practice. Take a lesson. Practice more. Then practice with actual cars instead of the cones. You'll get it. And someday in the future, you'll be glad you did.
