I received a letter from USCIS telling me that I need to send proof of my joint sponsor citizenship!... I sent her original birth certificate!!!... I don't know why they are asking me for it if I sent it... My joint sponsor is my mother-in-law and of course she got married long time ago and she change her last name, and of course her birth certificate has her maiden name... do you know if I have to sent a proof of when she changed her last name, like the marriage certificate or something like that??? I understand that I don't have to send that information (I read it on another forum some time ago)... I also know that i can send a photocopy of her passport instead of the birth certificate, but she is afraid of airplanes and she has never been outside The US, so she doesn't have a passport....

Anyway, my question is... Did I do anything wrong??? or I just need to send again her birth certificate???

Thanks!

Look at the instructions:

Proof of U.S. citizen or national status includes a copy of your birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, certificate ofcitizenship, consular report of birth abroad to citizen parents,or a copy of the biographic data page of your U.S. passport.

In your case you might have the option of getting her a passport. Doesn't hurt to get one afterall.

Looks like you stumbled upon a picky case adjudicator. :crying: No you didn't do anything wrong and yes you could try a passport for her but that could take weeks!

If I was in your shoes, I would go ahead and re-send the birth certificate and also send in marriage certificate, that would hook up her maiden name with married name. Good luck!

Others with experience may want to speak up
