Greetings to all ......

I'm grappling with the question as to send my fiancee's engagement ring to her in Nanning. Is this something the interviewer in GZ may take notice of? I have apprehensions about sending an expensive piece of jewelry thru the mail. Also, I'd kinda like to give it to her personally. Although it would be nice if she had it to wear before we marry.

Any thoughts?

With each passing minute our love ones come closer to us :P

Thanks

This is something that is not necessary. The proof of engagement that the embassy would require is the signed letter from you stating that you are willing and able to marry her on the K1 visa within 90 days upon her entry to the US.

Absolutely under no circumstances send the engagement ring through the mail. It's just not worth it. True, I had a somewhat expensive necklace make it, but I had some rather inexpensive (but flashy) earrings not make it. Just wait to give it to her in person.

I can't really answer your other question because I am not really familiar with the consulate there in Guangzhou. In Saigon (HCMC), sometimes they seem to care about the ring, sometimes they don't. I think it probably depends on the rest of your case, and whether they might want to see that little extra bit of evidence. I would surely make sure I kept the receipt for that ring in any case.

I don't see why any consulate would care whether you mailed it or gave it in person, and I don't have enough information here to understand your situation 100%. It sounds like you have never met before. Or maybe you have met, but didn't decide to pop the question on the first visit. I am not sure.

I would never mail a valuable ring. How about taking a screen shot of you showing it to her on the webcam and include that with your communication evidence?

most wives in china don't have engagement rings or wedding bands (except for the noisy keyboard, brass, and drum kind in front of the restaraunt the banquet is held in). it's just not an expectation in this retarded economy.

my wife's friends were amazed to see her's, and used it as leverage in the negotiations with their boyfriends. sometimes they even brought them by our house to prove she had one, and that they, therefore, needed one too. then we got married and they saw the band, and the boyfriends started cussing "ta ma di" at me on the street when i passed on the motorbike. had to change the route i drive to work. they prolly still haven't forgiven me.

if you look closely, you can see it in this pic from our album.

if you sent it by mail, you just donated it to the chinese mail system. anything from the US not a letter, don't expect it to arrive ever.

Thanks for all the advice. It seems for an expensive item , that can't be exactly replaced , it better to not send thru the mail. That's fine. This way I can give it to her personally. Maybe I'll use the idea of a screenshot to include in the interview papers. Every bit helps. Yes, Chun said most women don't wear, or don't own wedding rings anyway.

Thanks Again.
