this country is military mad.

Not according to percent of population in armed forces or size of armed forces historically. Amount of defense spending- there's your talking point.

What the hell difference does it make which one was in the army. Palin said in the debate, 'mccain is the only one who knows how to win a war' So wait, he won vietnam????? No, he didn't, and no the US didn't, and they are going to have the same result in Iraq. It's like he wants to stay in Iraq cos he was so disappointed with the way that vietnam turned out. What a great reason for staying in a bad war!!!

How exactly is U.S. losing the war in Iraq? I suppose if we pulled out regardless (the Obama plan) of conditions, yeah the U.S. would lose by default. How is Iraq the same as Vietnam? Are they like Ireland, too, giving you some special insight?

I don't see where you're going with the Ireland comment, but whatever.

They are not winning in Iraq. That's for sure. They are basically just paying off the local religious militias and once those bribes stop flowing the whole situation will blow up again. They haven't initiated any government that would be stable without US forces staying there. In other wars what would happen at this stage is that the US army would start to pull out to be replaced by UN peacekeepers. Where are they?? Oh yeah, the US went in unilaterally and so have almost no support whatsoever. So they have to rely on just-trained recruits to the Iraqi army, that will crumble as soon as the bribes dry up.

I am a 21 year Army veteran, I served in Bosnia & Iraq, I have more medals than a Mexican general & I am voting for Obama. My point? Knock off the ####### about military service. I know a LOT of people in the military who are voting for Obama so to correlate McCain with patriotism & the military and to suggest that Obama is not patriotic or anti-military is total BS.

Yes McCain is a former POW & of course I have immense respect for him in that regard, but as soon as he started running a dishonest & negative campaign I lost respect for him as a politician. He WAS a maverick back in the day, but as far as I'm concerned he sold out to the neo-cons & the Karl Rove school of politics in an attempt to win this election (he played fair in 2000 & got rolled by Bush & his dishonest tactics). I guess as far as McCain is concerned if you can't beat em, join em.

Furthermore as for the debate about the surge you have to look at the purpose of it, which is to give breathing room to the Iraqis to make political & economic progress. Yes our military has done an awesome job; we are the best trained & most professional military on the planet. Security has improved, but what progress have the Iraqis made? Not much, because they have a welfare mentality & expect us to support their lazy asses. The Bush administration has essentially enabled the Iraqis to be this way, as we have handed over billions of dollars (and more importantly lost thousands of American lives) while holding them to no standard at all. How can we criticize Wall Street for being inept, greedy & corrupt but at the same condone the same behavior from the Iraqis??????

He's the only one who has really fought for our country. Where was Obama and Biden other than being shot at  .

Yeah...he fought for our country, but he got caught.

I respect everyone and anyone who has the courage to put on a uniform and place themselves in harms way, but....

I tend to think of the heroes as the guys who are able to do it without getting caught.

Maybe it's just me, but it's kind of like celebrating somebody who was at the top of their GED class in prison....I mean, it's a good thing, but...

Obama's ties to Bill Ayers, a founder of the 1960s radical group The Weather Underground this is fighting for our country? good company Barrack but he hasn't been caught yet.

Enough with the Rhetoric! Criticizing McCain because "he got caught" or criticizing Obama because of his supposed ties to Bill Ayers is pointless & nonsensical. It would be nice if the candidate's views were examined a lot more than all of the other irrelevant ####### people bring up.

Good luck with that.

Most people are idiots, as illustrated in this thread.

Exactly. McCain no longer exists. He's a casualty of the Republican nominating process. What we have now is Mr. McSame.
