i miss belgian chocolates..

They have a Carrefour in Singapore? Good grief! The big corporates are everywhere!

XD not only there! The durian stand I passed was just inside the main entrance to a Carrefour in Malaysia too. Had to hold my breath everytime we went to buy diapers (food was better at the Isetan, but they had a better diaper selection in the Carrefour)

I'm not Belgian, but I miss Belgian chocolate too! mmmmm.... best chocolate I've ever had. Ever.

My husband (who hates durian) says he once encountered a smell that's exactly like durian. He was on the tarmac at a small airport and smelled, simultaneously, raw sewage and deisel exhaust. He really hates that fruit and can detect the smell from much much farther away than I can.

It also almost made him throw up the first time he smelled it. I was once giving him some different flavored mooncakes and one of them happened to be durian... There was much gagging and choking

my friend just sent me some Duran candies.. yummm..

I know the things I am going to miss most as I have already spent several months in the US.

CHEESE - I find the US cheese very mild and I like extra mature chedder like Seriously Strong

BREAD - Can't stand the sweetness in most US brands - although Walmart sell fresh hot french bread which is delicious but doesn't have much body

ENGLISH FISH & CHIPS - so I am making up for it by having em once a week til I leave

BRANSTON PICKLE - WEETABIX - real BUTTER - KIDNEY BEANS - ENGLISH STRAWBERRIES

you can get Branston pickle and weetabix here.

you can get real butter. you can also get kidney beans.

You know...there is another side to this. The American foods that us USCs miss when we are in our spouse's countires. For example...PEANUT BUTTER. I ALWAYS carry a jar with me when I leave the Americas. Oh...and although this isn't a food. Toilet paper is a MUST. You know Europe is MOSTLY 1st world...they just can't seem to get toilet products right. ;)

Well, I am the USC and honestly, I miss the food in India more than the food here. I don't really eat much now that I have come home. I loved the food there. It was great!

mmmmm Tim Tam's *drool* I sometimes see other types of Arnott's bicuits at Big Lots but I've never seen Tim Tam's there. A friend used to bring them to me from Oz, and then I think it was A&P in some places in Ontario carried them for a while.

You may want to look into the FDA regulations regarding sending food stuffs thru the mail. They don't quite like that, and you may just have to wait on someone being able to actually come visit. For some reason its ok to bring food with you but not send it  Its kinda confusing, but when I tried to mail some foods from Canada our post office wouldn't even take it

you can get Branston pickle and weetabix here.

British Branston Pickle you could get until recently, now they've starting making it in the US and surprise, surprise: its not the same! For one thing, its not vegetarian (having anchovies in it now). The trouble is all the import stores around me have just started selling the local stuff instead of importing the real stuff. How do they justify the same inflated price if its made in New Jersey I wonder?

Butter: Well I'm lucky and can get Kerrigold in my local supermarket, but if you've never had butter from UK/Ireland you wouldn't know what the OG meant by "Real Butter". Suffice to say the US stuff is very different.

Kidney Beans: Yeah, no idea what the guy is talking about. I can't tell the difference between the US and UK version, as long as I remember to pick up the "dark" variety!

My situation is actually reversed. LOL! I miss the food from India, and I'm the USC. Not once did I miss American food, and now that I am at home, I don't eat that much anymore. :(

When I was in Malaysia... the things I missed most was real cow's milk (not that weird stuff from Australia - it tasted wrong), ranch dressing on salads, and real lemonade (not sprite or 7up... but real lemonade) Thank god there was an Auntie Annie's in the KLCC mall, where I could go for a lemonade fix, as well as a Chili's which actually served ranch dressing on the salads.

Things I miss here that we had there: the really good tepanyaki, these yummy japanese cookies we got from the Isetan, pandan muffins, and this spicy/noodle/egg breakfast thing you could get anywhere. I forget what it was called, but it smelled like morning there.

zackly! Which is why I order from on-line rather than have family send me stuff, I could never figure it out.

I think tho if you send stuff via courier rather than mail its different, but you'd have to ask a courier company in Oz to be sure.

I had several Malaysian friends in university, and the thing I loved was this dish with cubes of rice and a peanut sauce, did you have that there? I don't even remember what it was called. It was different than the Indonesian peanut sauce you can get here, it was spicy and so good.

I miss food from my fiancé's home country too, mostly dairy products. Why are US dairy products so yucky? I end up making my own súrmjólk (cultured milk) and skyr (like a yogurt but made like a soft cheese). And I miss shrimp cheese, which you can't exactly make yourself because it's highly processed. ;)
