I am a US Born Citizen filing an I-130 Petition for my wife in the Philippines.

I can't get a consistent answer from the USCIS. I have heard that I need to also include "Evidence of a bonafide marriage".

I will of course be including our Marriage Certificate, but since we are newly married, and my wife has never been to the USA, we do not have joint ownership in any property, leases, or bank accounts. I have even tried to add her name to my accounts here, but I am not able to do that without her present, and without her having a Social Security Number.

I thought that the monthly receipts for the money I have sent her, (and now she is using my Check Card each month at an ATM in the Philippines) might be acceptible.

Besides that, I am not sure what other "Evidences of a bonafide marriage", that I can submit with the I-130.

Thanks for any information.

Regards, Mark

Marriage certificate, an affidavit from my mother in law and a few photos(of us and us with others) are the only proofs of bonafide marriage my husband submitted. We got approved with no problem. My guess is most newly married who have not been living together won't have too many joint ownership and other financial evidences.

I do have more evidences collected after the initial filing i.e. cards, letters, health insurance plan, which was brought to the interview.

Despite the "in addition to the required documents...should submit one or more of the following...." you see in the I-130 instructions, I've seen no evidence of any newlywed couple who haven't lived together in the same country yet, needing to submit anything more than a marriage certificate with the initial petition filing. Your bona fides will be examined during the interview.

Note that by definition "in addition to the required" means "not required".

I agree, the only "evidence of a bonafide marriage" that was submitted with our I-130 was our marriage certificate...
