Hey all,

Catherine just emailed me and said that the technician wasn't able to get her fingerprints done electronically because her fingers "weren't good for it". They've submitted paper prints but she was told it would take up to five months for them to process.

Do any of you have experience with expediting this process or can you recommend somewhere she can go to give it another go? Five months for fingerprints is crazy and puts a serious snag in our plans.

<edit> She's in K-W this weekend and will be going back to Bermuda on Sunday. Any quick help is appreciated. I think she was going through Les Commisionaires (?) rather than the RCMP directly. </edit.

Thanks!

Phil

Phil, does Catherine have a criminal record?

If not, she doesn't need to have the fingerprint version done. She just needs to get the Canada Wide Name Check.

Unfortunately the US consulate in Bermuda requires the fingerprint check regardless of whether the applicant has a criminal record or not.

We're just going to have to deal with potentially an extra five months. Does anyone know if it really takes that long? I wonder if that estimate is just a worse-case scenario for people with no criminal record.

It's a little frustrating to be hung up on a police check whe I've never even had a speeding ticket.

I didn't even know there was such a thing where the fingers weren't good for electronic fingerprinting. That sucks.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Yuck! Forgot about the Bermuda thing. Well, my Brother in Law had to have his done for something, he lives in the U.S. - so he went to the local police station, they took his fingerprints and forwarded them to the RCMP, I believe it took him 2-3 months to get them back, but I will double check with my Sister today.

I would really appreciate it if some of you would cross your fingers for me.

I've just spoken with the Commissionaires guy that did my electronic fingerprints on Friday. He sent the electronic version despite them not being very clear and the RCMP hasn't rejected them outright. They questioned him about Phil's address but never told him that the prints weren't good enough. So, there's a chance that we are back on schedule. He says he should know for sure tomorrow.

I kind of feel like I'm watching a thriller movie. The suspense is killing me and my emotions are all over the place.

*fingers crossed*
