it's a big problem down here... someone a friend of mine works with said they'd vote for obama because they'd rather have a black person (insert word that starts with n here) than a woman in control.

Sound more like a tepid Obama supporter to me.

so this friend is a misogynist

As a so called "Black American" or "African American", while I don't understand racism, I've come to accept

that it's as ingrained in the American fabric, as are the stripes and stars on the flag.

What surprises me the most about people's attitudes in this election is the stupidity.

I mean, it's one thing to have prejudices against a people because of the color of their skin,

but it's an entirely different level of ignorance for people that would fear putting a Black man

in office and prefer to have Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the red button.

Last night's debate showed that she's very good at cramming for an interview.

They should have given her that type of coaching before putting her in front of the press,

but clearly she was only reiterating rehearsed lines instead of responding to a debate.

Given Senaor McCain's advanced age, experience as a POW, and bouts with Cancer,

there's a greater likelihood that he will not make it through the next 4 years in a capacity

to fulfill his duties as President, than the likelihood that he would.

I'm not saying that you have to like any particular candidate to select them,

but you should be able to use common sense. Even if you can't understand the politics,

and have to use your gut instincts to select a President, on the surface there's a smart choice,

and a not so smart choice. How many of you on this list are looking for a 72 year old to fulfill a position on your staff?

While putting Senator Obama into office may be risky, putting Senator McCain in office

is sheer stupidity.

As I said, the racism issue doesn't surprise me, but the stupidity of my fellow citizens amazes me.

Its not even important that he wrote it about Obama - its just a dumb thing to do. Why he thought this was somehow acceptable speech for someone in a position of authority - is just beyond me.

Absolutely shameful...I teach American Government to 17-18 year olds, and I think it is inappropriate to show a political preference in the classroom, much less spewing that kind of garbage...

And he was a MIDDLE school teacher?!?!?!?!

Yep. A student gave me his final art project last year when he graduated. It's a painting of Obama that won a juried prize. It's in my classroom, behind my desk. I won't put it up until after the election... It is not my place as a teacher to let any political preference show. My students are mostly of voting age and if they come out and ask my opinion I will share it with as much impartiality as I can show. The sad thing is the painting is really good, very Andy Wharhol-esque, and the student who gave me the painting was someone who I saw grow from a troubled freshman to a really amazing senior, so it's more to honor him that anything else.

People who use any types of slurs in the classroom should be taken out. Never mind political preference. It's just not what we should be doing as role models.

Well, at least he wasn't having sex with his students.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I've ceased to be surprised or amazed at the stupidity of humans in general. Every time I've thought there was a level of 'stupid' that no one could sink below, someone does.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Racism is stupidity... and since many racists are in denial of their racism, in the same way as many stupid people are... then none of it comes as a major surprise.

as i said, racism is rife in the south :(

Nothing new to me. Family in the south training their dogs to bark at black people, talking about dragging a *** behind their truck, and so forth, er, yeah.. no wonder family out here makes fun of them and looks down upon them. People like this need to be brought to the scrutiny of the masses and lynch mobbed, figuratively speaking.

Racism is stupidity... and since many racists are in denial of their racism, in the same way as many stupid people are... then none of it comes as a major surprise.

Indeed.

From the article:

Moore said the district will send its investigation findings to the Florida Department of Education's Office of Professional Practice Services, which will determine if further reprimands, such as revoking Howard's teacher certification, will be handed down.

Nah, I think a good punishment would be to teach in primarily black school. He'll either straighten out or revoke his own teacher certification.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I need to reiterate that this post by Ling Ling deals specifically with race and is spot on. The rest is plain old common sense.
