If she had said "Back to energy" or "Alaska as an energy-producing state" one more time I was going to kill myself.

Her mentioning "soccer moms" a blatant attempt to portray herself as folksy-homesy....it's so obvious, I hope people are smarter than that.......blech.

When all else fails, and you don't know the answer....just go back to energy!!!!!

Biden really touched me when he spoke about being a single parent. THAT was more real than anything Palin had to say "dontcha know"

I love what you said: pretty much signifies what I was thinking last night. That woman needs a thesaurus pronto. If she said "he's the Maverick" one more time, I would have shot something. She is really a one-issue responder, eh? "Well, about health care, in Alaska we produce energy and...." #######.

biden said that he approved of giving rights to gay couples, for example in cases of being in hospital, inheritance etc, he just didn't approve of gay "marriage". we don't have gay marriage in the uk either, it is called a civil union, which was not mentioned by either side for some reason?

is there such a thing as common law marriage in the US? or an alternative to a traditional marriage (even within the heterosexual community)? I'm under the understanding that there is not. It would take some serious tweaking of laws I would thing (in immigration and otherwise).

i'm not sure about that. wiki says this about cali though;

California continues to allow domestic-partner registration, a right similar to civil unions found in other states.[8] This grants "same-sex couples all state-level rights and obligations of marriage — in areas such as inheritance, income tax, insurance and hospital visitation" but does not apply to "federal-level rights of marriage that cannot be granted by states".

i don't think that would be difficult for a state to implement?

i think that asking both of them about "gay marriage" when that isn't what california currently has, was misleading.

Didn't they reference Alaska in regards to that topic? Maybe I was too tired to be watching but I thought they were referencing Alaska

yeah they were when biden said about rights for gay couples.

but then palin was asked if she agreed with that stretching to the rest of the country she said; "Well, not if it goes closer and closer towards redefining the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman. And unfortunately that's sometimes where those steps lead."

then Ifill followed up with this question for biden; "Let's try to avoid nuance, Senator. Do you support gay marriage?"

badly asked question in my opinion.

The media comments (I was watching it on Fox) were certainly a bit strange. Mainly interested in how she carried herself, almost no interest in what she said.

I really do not see this all that disturbing, is like when you are teaching your little kid how to ride a bike w/o training wheels, you are more concerned that he/she doesn't fall off the freaking bike than on how well he/she turns corners hahaha

I'm of the opinion that the media (the Fourth Estate) should serve a very specific purpose - that of providing independent oversight of the actions of government. They should be concerned with the substance of political dialog, rather than fixate on how it comes across.

I second that, but we are talking about FOX here, Palin is their queen bee ;)

And now tell us: who is more dangerous: Pakistan or Iran?

"Well, this guy is really psycho, but you know when I was the major in Wasilla I did not raise taxes"

The scary part is I still think they can get to the White House. That IS scary.

I also thought this was a bit of a weird thing to say.

So it was Barack Obama who voted for that energy plan that gave those tax breaks to the oil companies that I then had to turn around, as a governor of an energy-producing state, and kind of undo in my own area of expertise, and that's energy.

So ok - she had to undo tax breaks to oil companies that Obama voted for. But energy is her "area of expertise"?

*******************************************************************************

Fox is awful... I see 8 hours of it a day (where I work the news is on all day) & they are so blatantly biased it's ridiculous. First of all they have 10X more coverage of McCain than Obama (the same thing they whine about in the other direction, I guess two wrongs do a make a right according to Fox). Secondly when they bring on an "expert" its always a right winger & they rarely bring on anyone to get an opposing view. The only redeeming quality Fox has to offer is babes in short skirts, which I appreciate mind you, but enough with the obviously biased news reporting.

Yes, she knows more about it than anyone in the country, doncha know *wink*

I'll wait for the political cartoon showing her in furs (with a swimsuit underneath), with one foot on the head of a dead moose while holding a baby in one hand and with the other - single-handedly building a cold fusion reactor out of a needle and thread and a can of baked beans.
