ask barney frank how much money freddie and fannie have contributed to his political campaigns.

A great question that should be asked of other politicians as well.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Very interesting indeed. Sad to say that it is no surprise many subprime rates went out to more than just one economical ladder rung- yet one can always ask the question as to why better rates would not accompany those supposed economical empowerment mortgages. I have one answer that is more logical than blaming one political party.

Now this I would like to hear. :pop:

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

If Congressman Frank was lying back in July 2008, why didn't anyone catch him in the lie? This is a stupid O'Reilly tactic. The financial reports are public and investors look at those. They don't rely for the Chairman of the Finance Committee who oversees a plethora of financial issues.

Who would catch him in the lie, Steven? His Congress buddies who are just as corrupt as he is?

As for Barney's insistence that the meltdown was brought on by Republican deregulation,

here's what he said in 2003 in response to Bush's initiative to reign in Fannie and Freddie

by creating new oversight under the Treasury Department:

Barney [2003]: 'These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of

financial crisis. The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there

is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.

Read the New York Times article, it's very interesting.

"The Bush administration [yes, BUSH - MW] today [september 11, 2003 - MW] recommended

the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan

crisis a decade ago.

...

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac --

which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken. A report by

outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead

investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.

...

Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders

and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce

their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said

Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee.

''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less

we will see in terms of affordable housing.''

Eat that, Steven.

I think Congressman Frank held his own by explaining where he was coming from. He's right that we need Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to function, but he was saying that tighter regulations were needed and had been needed for long time, which he fought for and couldn't get passed until the Democrats had the majority in Jan. 2007. What I'm troubled about is that those two programs are now publicly traded entities, yet the Fed Gov't. needs them to stay afloat.

Barney Frank fought for tighter regulation of Fannie and Freddie???

What I'm saying is that unless you can show that somehow Congressman Frank knew secret information that wasn't available to the stockholders of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, you can't put much weight as far as any consequences for what he said back in July of this year.

I don't where that interview was or what in the context, B. Frank was speaking about (when he spoke back in July 2008), but if he was not being honest and forthright, what he said had no bearing on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's failure. And this goes back to what I said earlier - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should have gone back to being government programs because too much is at stake should those institutions fail.

What about his lies TODAY about fighting for tighter regulation of Fannie and Freddie,

when in fact he did the exact opposite, blocking Republican legislation back in 2003

which aimed to regulate Fannie and Freddie because he didn't want to "weaken the

ability of poor families to get affordable housing"?

Barney Frank fought for tighter regulation of Fannie and Freddie???

Barney Rubble, what a piece of ####### liar.

Oh Mawilson I laughed out loud at that one.:lol::thumbs:

Look, if he was as innocent as a lamb and knew nothing about the fraud, why oppose the regulation so vehemently?? He had nothing to hide, didn't he?

And F&F have always been government programs, and Democrat lobbyists were occupying key posts. Look what a wonderful job they have done. In fact, has the government EVER been efficient at running anything?
