Interviews are done in English or the "official" language of the country. Some will also provide a third option which could be the most often spoken language. For Ukraine it was English, Ukrainian (Official) or Russian (most spoken).

NO  English is not a requirement, the VO is quite capable to interview in the language of the country where the consulate is located.

Note: Sometimes the question of how the petitioner and beneficiary communicate may come up if interview is not conducted in English.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

What if the request to be done in native language (countries language) or a translator was denied?

Isn't that a bad sign??

They cannot expect the beneficiary to be fluent in English when it is not their native language, they cannot refuse to conduct interview in the native language of the country where the consulate is located.

But they did!! My husband asked if the interview could be in Arabic, My husband does speak English good, but his understanding is a bit slower for him to explain things. That is why he wanted to explain/answer in Arabic... But he was denied that ...Not even a translator was proivded! The Office just snapped back and said No, how do you communicate with your wife then if you want to have the interview in Arabic...

Nita,

The Consular officer violated interview rules established by the State Department in denying the interview in his native language  My Fiance just had her interview in Tashkent and the Consular Officer asked her if she wished her interview in English and she said no. I want an interperter which was provided. She was also asked the question about how we communicated if her English was not good. Her answer was that her future beloved husband has much patients and speaks slowly to help me understand not only sentences but words

Was your Fiance denied visa?

Good luck,

robertjay
