I'm not being disrespectful in any way shape or form, but I've yet to see a day for Christians at any theme parks. Don't get me wrong, myself being married to a muslim man, I totally and completely repect his religion, but he honestly was shocked when I called him up to talk to him about this a few moments ago. Since he's been here he's realized that we as Americans cannot do many things that our great-grandparents did because we will offend someone. Honestly, this does offend me. I googled this Muslim day at Six Flags and the workers cannot even where shorts because they might offend someone! Come on! We are in American, the land of the free!!!!! I'm offended because since other religions are offended, we cannot as Christians celebrate Christmas without someone being offended. Put a Christmas tree or a cross up and OMG!

It's Muslim Day at Six Flags Magic Mountain on Saturday and Santa Clarita resident A.J. Jones is curious to know if the park hosted other religious events in the past.

This is Magic Mountain's first year hosting Muslim Family day. It is far from its first time hosting a religious event, said park spokeswoman Sue Carpenter.

"I think it's great as long as they open it up to everyone," said Jones, whose friend works at the park. Jones is concerned the park's supervisors asked the employees to wear pants Saturday to cover their legs despite the unusually high heat. "I think its kind of strange," Jones said. "It's been so hot for pants."

But Carpenter said not to worry.

"Out of respect, we request the employees wear their uniform pants, instead of their shorts," Carpenter said. "It is only a request, it is not mandatory."

The Islamic Circle of North America requested the day as a celebration for end of Ramadan. Muslim Family Day comes just five days after the end of Ramadan, a Muslim religious observance in which participating Muslims fast from dawn until sunset.

Park officials will try to meet the Muslim group's needs as it does with any other group, Carpenter said.

"There will be a plethora of things to do for the youth and the entire family including halal food stalls, ethnic bazaar and family entertainment" the event's Web site states.

The group is hosting Muslim Family and Youth Days in seven other United States cities this fall.

All those who attend will take part in what the group claims is "The largest American Muslim event."

The theme park expects a busy day Saturday and the park will remain open to the general public and host the first day of its annual Halloween Fright Fest, Carpenter said.

I'm offended because since other religions are offended, we cannot as Christians celebrate Christmas without someone being offended.

So then I guess you understand why people are offended by so much Christmas then? Last I checked there is tons of Christmas around. It's not going to stop just because someone is offended.

That is the Six Flags closest to where I live. That particular area of Southern CA is VERY HOT, especially lately with the heat wave we've had. Wearing pants in that heat sucks but, if you are an employee I think you should wear whatever your boss tells you to wear (within reason). Besides they asked, didn't make it mandatory.

Its too bad we can't go. I've always wanted to take my husband to Six Flags. I took him to Knotts Berry Farm last year (its another place with roller coasters but not as scary as those at Six Flags) and he LOVED IT. They don't have anything like that in Morocco as far as I know.

Maybe the Christians Association or Assembly of Gods or Catholic Churches, etc need to call up and request the day? Just seems like it takes a phone call and not outrage? Ya know.

Besides, Six Flags in NJ and Six Flags in St. Louis DO have Christian Family day. Other parks do similar things...

I don't see why it would be offensive. Its a way for Muslims to celebrate together....kind of like renting out the park.

Personally I think it's great! When I saw this post I felt relieved in a way. Yesterday was Eid but it was also a Jewish holiday. Each one of my jewish coworkers got to take the day off but me? I got the morning off but had to work the afternoon.

During Christmas people are let go early Christmas eve and have the day off for Christmas. During Easter most get Good Friday off. Many many restaurants are decorated with nice lights, etc. for Christmas and some even have Channaka (sp) decorations. Schools now have "holiday" parties where the kids sing not only songs for Christmas but also Channakuh and even Kwanza and lemme tell you there's not one kid in our school that actually celebrates Kwanza but there are approximately 10 in the elementary school that my kids went to that do celebrate Ramadan and Hajj. Not one word is mentioned about those holidays in this so called "holiday" party.

Good for Six Flags for actually recognizing that we exist!

Wow things are turning around for all! Slowly but surely. We never had any kwanza, Chanukkah, Hindu, Buddhist, or any Muslim things AT ALL when I was growing up. Only Christian holidays mattered I guess.

I guess it never bothered me either though. Some people get offended quite easily!

Amen!

I have seen all kinds of news reports for people taking off for the Rosh Hashanah, even on Capitol Hill but nothing about Eid (even though there is a Muslim conngressman from MN). All the news channels were scrolling about Rosh Hashanah, not a peep about Eid.

Maybe if all the religions got some recognition then some people would not be put off when they hear about different celebrations.

Why sweep Muslim celebrations under the rug?

Another note: People knew WELL in advance when Rosh Hashanah is and probably requested the day off months in advance. Eid was decided the last minute and we all know what the confusion was over when exactly it was. Maybe people didn't even ask to have those days off? I personally know someone who got the day off for Eid and I'm sure there are plenty. And I also know people who did not get off for Rosh Hasnanah. I've never had it off in my entire life but I've gotten all the Christian holidays off.....

*shrug* Oh well!

It's so nice to be self-employed... :luv: I can take off b/c it's Tuesday or b/c I'm taking my husband to the airport, or b/c I have cramps! Granted, I don't get paid, but heck.... it's nice being self employed. :D

I agree and I feel you on that.

It would jsut be nice to get some kind of acknowledgement that it exists. Personally, I could care less about having it off. I think if I had kids it would be more important to me. Even a "Eid is going to be on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday" would be cool :)

But like you said, oh well. I guess there are always going to be people who are unhappy with the way things are, no matter what others do.

I guess it depends on where you live. I grew up in the town that I live in now and I remember getting Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur off from school. Eid is definitely a tricky one since no one REALLY knows for sure when it will be but I had an idea that it would be October 1st since that is what the north american council had stated so I requested it off in advance and was told that I can't take the whole day because it is business day 1 here, howevaa we have about 3 other analysts here who had the whole day off. Granted they had a different manager though so I'm hoping that's the case instead of it being that they are jewish and i am muslim. I'm not going to make a stink about it since we just had massive layoffs and I'd rather lay low but seriously I never even got an email from the president stating happy Ramadan, but he always sends it out before Christmas and did so this year for Rosh Hashana.

I"m rambling now but I wonder if it just doesn't cross their mind. Maybe if more people speak up something will be done. I'm one of a few muslim moms in our school system and if I had the energy I could probably make a point about it and start passing out Ramadan and Hajj info sheets or something to the teachers but I'm too lazy.
