But perhaps not so ignorant as to confuse "to" and "too". Edited by akdiver

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

What I can't figure out is why cussing is considered to be such a big deal? Words, in any language, are just sounds. If someone cusses in say, Spanish, ... an English speaker is not offended. THEY ARE JUST SOUNDS! Any feelings or bad connotations are coming entirely from the listener and the listeners perception/background.

That being said, it seems to me that any particular cuss word is perceived differently by just about everyone... at least in their level of "offense".

So... since everyone perceives them differently and the fact that many words are now becoming a mainstream part of the English language, it is no surprise that more and more people are using them for emphasis or purely as habit.

Also, just what qualifies as a "cuss" word? Really, the only original cuss words were when taking the lords name in vein. The F word and words for excrement for example are technically just slang words. For those, it truly IS all in the mind of the listener.. and we all have different minds!

Just my $.02

I'm sorry, could you repeat that, please? All I kept hearing was sound. :hehe:

The same argument I've tried for years. "Bad Words" are subjective. To me, the most offensive words are "God, Lord, Jesus, Satan, Bible, and Christian". Does that mean people will stop using them? No. Does that mean that someone who uses those words is ignorant? Erm.... moving on.... I can't believe how worked up some people get about words. They'll get offended by someone using "pu$$y", but they'll think nothing of someone using "#######" (from the Latin for 'Sword Sheath'). Personally, I find the word ####### to be more aurally offensive. To the uber-fundies though, even that is too much. Can't say "woman-bits" either. It has to be something like "nether regions" or some such euphamistic bullsh!t.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I never heard a swear word leave my Dad's lips, that is until the fateful day that he dropped the chicken he was cooking. He said damn. It was like being hit with a brick shithouse. I was compelled to gasp, cover my mouth with my hands, and immediately begin running around the kitchen, crying, and shouting to my brother that the dad swore. He ran into the kitchen too and joined me in the hysteria. Chaos ensued until my dad told us to shut up.

I don't curse (the word I use for cuss). I wasn't brought up hearing it from my family(except for the extremely rare occasion) and so those words rarely pop into my head to say if I am mad or something. I have rarely said them, but yeah I have said a couple during my lifetime. Yes it's true, only a couple times. And not in public. I think some people do all the time because that's just what they hear and it becomes normal to them. I don't understand the need for people to interject it into every sentence, but I guess it's a habit or feels normal to them. I think people sound better without them. I have been around many people as I got older who swore like sailors so it's not like my ears haven't heard them :P , but I did not pick up the habit and don't plan to. It annoys me to talk to someone who uses the F word in every sentence.
