First of all I want to thank the VJ community for all the helpful advice and info it has provided me and my fiance during our k1 visa process. Thanks to the site and everyone here, our journey is nearing it's completion. I am now planning my trip to head back to philippines to pick up my fiance and 1 year old daughter. I really don't want her to travel by herself and our baby, so I will be going back to accompany them on thier trip here to the US. My question is this, should I buy 3 tickets here in the US for myself (round trip) and for my fiance and 1 year old daughter (one way from philippines)? Or should I buy my ticket and wait till I head to philippines and buy thier tickets over there? I was informed that if I buy thier ticket here in the US it would actually be more expensive as if I were to buy it in Philippines, but I fear that if I were to wait and buy it in philippines, the airline will not be able to put us three all together in the same flights, which would defeat my purpose of going back in the first place. Would anyone know if the airline would accomodate and put us all three together in the same flights if i wait and buy the tickets in philippines. Any advice and suggestion would be greatly appreciated, Thank You.

Why don't you look on the internet, search for flights, see how expensive they are, call the airlines, and research?

If she already has the visa you may want to do it different, but if she hasn't gotten quite that far yet (ie she'll be doing her interview when you get there) you probably should buy a round trip for you, that can have the return flight changed or even refunded... and then possibly buy three tickets in the philippines to the US.

If she already has the visa, you can book flights from the philippines online (not so much because she has the visa but because you know she won't be waiting for it still when your flight date arrives), a ticket for me to the phil's is 1650 but the other way around is about 1200 online (might have been some as low as 1000). I haven't checked prices lately but I don't think they've changed a lot. I think the hard part is making sure that everyone ends up on the same flight, I think it'll be pretty hard to do when the tickets aren't purchased at the same time.

I lived in Thailand for 3 years, and it always seemed like if I bought a ticket from a Thai travel agent they were always cheaper than if I would have bought them in the US. Maybe I was Just lucky. When I go for the interview, I'm only going to buy myself a one-way ticket to Bangkok. Once she has the visa in hand, I will buy us each a one-way ticket to come back to the US.

You are correct on the tickets being cheaper from Travel Agents in Asia. They get kick backs from the airlines, thus allowing them to reduce the fares even further. Thanks to US Regulation of the Airline industry, US Airlines are not allowed to do it, however if you head down to some Asian Travel agents in the US, sometimes they will give the deals because they have their relatives actually purchase the tickets in Asia and send them over.

If you fly PAL, I forsee no problem buying ticket in PI and being able to sit together.

They usually leave the bulkhead and Emergency Exit rows open till the end to accomodate the taller US passengers.

I see two problems with buying a 1 way ticket... the first and most important is... will the customs/immigration people have a problem with it in thailand? Second, is even if a ticket is cheaper in thailand, buying two one way tickets probably won't be cheaper than a single round trip ticket bought in the US.

All of my tickets into Thailand were one-way tickets, since I lived there. This meaning they were round trip with the last leg ending in Bangkok with no on-ward destination. I traveled every week and never had an issue. Two of the years were on a 30 day tourist visas.

I'm not gonna buy a round-trip ticket to Thailand, when I don't know for sure on what date that my wife will get approved.

You're right not buying a round trip ticket will not be cheaper, but buying two round trip tickets will be much more expensive if you have to change the date.

Hi,

You can buy an open tickets for yourself then you buy the tickets for your fiancee and the baby in the Philippines. Don't buy their tickets if they don't have their visa/passport on hands. Also, do some research on the internet.

Have a safe trip!

I think this is the best way to do when you will be picking up someone outside US.
