I have a question - when you go to interview and you take your bank account information, did anyone (or do you plan to) black out the account number or anything? Am I being super paranoid?! Thanks!

That's an excellent idea- I did that for our credit cards but it never occurred to me to do it to our bank statements. I'll have to get that done. You can never be too careful with your financial info.

Hey guys how are you? Sorry to hear that you guys havent heard any word from USCIS about your case. I can imagine you guys will hear something from them soon. My wife and I are in limbo with them right now waiting for the results of our interview we had last week Tuesday. I hope we do get approved and get the green card. I saw in the Canada thread that you guys applied for a NEXUS card, how do you go about that and what kinds of questions do they ask you at the interview? Wish you guys luck and hope you guys get your green card in time of your 2nd reception in April.

I almost wish we had another interview (besides the one we had in MTL) :( I read a little bit about what happened at yours. I think we'd be further along if our case wasn't transferred to the CSC.

I've had my Nexus card from before. It has saved me so many hours at the border. Especially driving. When I applied for it things were different and took longer. I just had a quick 20 min "interview" at Pearson Airport. Basically they give you the card and send you on your way. We never got one for Mary because of her current grey status. I had a Candian born US citizen friend of mine apply for a card last summer so he could go on the road trips with me - he was approved in a few weeks and we just scheduled the interview for the next time we were there (has to be done in Canada). It's pretty painless and once Mary gets her GC we'll apply for her Nexus card. When I applied I had to mail it in, but now I believe its on online.

Thanks and good luck with your GC!

I did not think about it. Anyway, the IO just looked if both our names were in there and checked the box in his checklist. How about just blacking out the account number in the photocopies if ever you have to give him one?

Good luck and God bless on your interview. . .

Has anyone here filed taxes yet? My husband does not have a SS# yet or a DL or a Breen Card of course......I am having issues filing with him at Jackson Hewitt. And we were trying to use his passport as identification BUT it asks for a visa number THEN asks for the expiration date....of course on a K1 visa in the passport it has the exp date as the date he had to get married to me (the 90 days). So when we put in the exp date it popped up the "if a visa is expired your case will be rejected" or whatever. Grrrrrr!

Yes, and I replied to your other post. We've been discussing this in another forum for a couple of weeks. Anybody who marrried in 2008 and brought a new immigrant to the US would benefit from reading about the tax stuff. That thread is here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=170514. Rin and John and Nich-Nick (me) have studied the tax codes extensively and our posts are pretty detailed. It's a long thread now, but may be helpful.

Yay! Congrats

well good news to everyone!!...

we were approved!

in tucson..our IO was a very nice lady!...

our interview probly lasted around 10-15 minutes..it was an in and out kind of thing..

these are the questions we were asked:

to my husband:

my name

both my parents name

my birthdate

where i was born

and our current address

to me:

when and where we met..

my full name

my husbands birthdate

the last time i had used my visa

if i ever had problems with the police, immigration, deportation (that checklist in the app)

the documents they asked to see...

were copies of bills

our copies of our credit cards

my social security card

my visa (they kept it)

my EAD

and our arizona id's

and that is about it...

everything went smoothly and she told us that i was going to recieve my conditional residency card in about 2-3 weeks..and to make sure to change the conditions in two years..and she said in three years i could get my citizenship...! so im super excited and relived...

all thanks to all the people who showed support!..may God bless you all..and give you a smooth finish to your immigration process!..lets keep everyone updated!

Congratulations!

congrats on the good news!!!!!

my husband received his welcome letter on friday so hopefully this means the actual card arrives soon!

Approved!

We had our interview this morning in Mount Laurel, NJ (same as Alxmrt). Our interview was at 8:30 and we were in the car driving home by 9:00 a.m. So, I guess that's to say that it was a pretty easy interview.

We were sworn in, then we showed our passports. The only question he asked hubbie was to confirm what he did for a living. He asked me about my visa and if I'd ever had any other type of visa. I have been travelling back and forth to Toronto on a business contract since I got my AP. That confused him a little, but it wasn't a big deal as I had my AP and stamps in my passport. Because of that he explained a bit about the requirement to be in the U.S. for a certain amount of time to keep the green card.

He said our case was pretty straightforward so when I reached into my briefcase to pull out piles of evidence, he said he didn't really need that much. He said they get a lot of cases that are pretty complicated and essentially with this they are looking for marriage fraud, but it was clear that this didn't apply to us.

He asked what I did for a living, how we met. We bought a house together in September, so he confirmed that but didn't ask for any documents. He asked for bank statements and insurance documents. I didn't need to show any utility bills, I think because of the house purchase (I had included that info in my I485 application).

We jokingly insisted that he at least look at our pictures since we had spent time pulling them together. He did, but it was kind of in a joking way.

All in all, it was a good experience. Our interviewer was very nice and for that I was grateful. He stamped my passport and took my AP and EAD card and said I should get my green card in about a week. He explained we had to apply to removed conditions in 1 yr and 9 mths. And that I could apply for citizenship in 3 years.

This is such a weight off my shoulders. No more USCIS for a couple of years.

Good luck to everyone else as they go through this process!

Ok well first thing first interview was today not yesterday as i thought lol was too desperate to get it over and done with.

So, we have just arrived home from our interview arrived around 1.30pm for interview at 2pm was called through around 2.15pm.

Walked through to the office and was sworn in and asked to take a seat, we were then asked to provide our birth certificates and passport/id's and marriage certificate. He asked my wife a few questions when/where we met, when/where did we get married, what her address is etc. After a conversation with both of us taking around 20 minutes, very relaxed style our interviewer proceeded to tell us about how he had met people from South Africa while on a trip (i was born in Durban,SA.) He took some of our documents to photocopy them and then asked for my EAD and AP, stamped my passport informed us about removal of conditions at the end of next year and that was that.

So we are APPROVED!!!!! You guys have all been amazing and i wish all the best to the rest of you who are still waiting for interviews.

CONGRADULATIONS my friend for getting approved for your green card :dance: . Glad to hear that you had a good experience and thank you for sharing your interview with all of us. Go and celebrate with your wife.
