My wife recently received her green card in her married name. Her passport is still in her maiden name and she will be going back to England for two weeks at the end of October. I'm booking her ticket today.

What name should she travel under, married or maiden? I'm assuming maiden since that's what her passport is under. We don't have enough time to change her passport. But when she comes back into the country, and they check her green card, it will be in a different name...should she take the marriage certificate, will that be enough?

Thanks!

Matt

The ticket must match the passport, so she should book it under her maiden name. She MUST bring her marriage certificate to show the married name that's on the greencard.

Book tickets in PASSPORT Name, airline officials compare tickets to passport, if they don't match then you wont be flying.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Airline tickets need to be in the same name as the passport, or she will have troubles going through security. Take a certified copy of your marriage certificate if questioned. When she comes back to the US, all she needs to show is the green card as ID, but she probably will get an entry stamp in her passport, so she'll need that close at hand as well.

I have traveled multiple times with tickets and passport in maiden name, green card /AP/ etc in married name. I have yet to have troubles travelling this way.

International flying is a bit more strict so the passport name match is extremely important. When green card name doesn't match passport, you need a marriage certificate too.

On a side note, my business partner bought a plane ticket for my Florida trip last week and used James Pushbrk on the ticket. My driver license says J. Michael Pushbrk, so I took my passport with James Michael Pushbrk with me just in case. As a test, I only handed my driver license to the TSA folks and had no problems. The tickets for next week's travel to China match the passport and visa. I've been dealing with my dear Mother's dirty trick of calling me by my middle name for over half a century but only the past few years have raised any major inconvenience.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

We just returned from a trip to the Philippines. We puchased my wife's ticket in her married name. Her passport is still in her maiden name. We also took a certified marriage certificate with us. We were asked to show the marriage certificate a couple of times, but did not have any difficulty. Coming back, at the POE, they only looked at the passport and the I-551 stamp.
