okay, dilemma at my other job working foster care, after continuing to go thru charts, i discovered one of my kids( foster care) has ODD, oppositional defiant disorder, which is extremely difficult to treat or even work with, mind you this kid is 7, he cusses, bites, pinches, fights, poops on himself on the regular, he also runs and goes awol quite frequently at least 4 to 5 times in a day. The boy has the common sense of a housefly and does not have the correlation in his brain about cause and effect. Now mind you this is the kid, that was found hogtied in the garage, i can only imagine what other things he has experienced, BUT i posed today that our agency is not the one too treat him ( bold on my part i know as im still new) BUT when this child runs, he runs into the street, into peoples homes, in vacant structures, etc. He has almost been hit by a car, numerous times. As a social worker, health and safety and advocating is drilled into your brain constantly to absolve yourself of liability. Since im not in the social worker role, but the manager role at this job i can only point out what i see as a huge liability to this agency. The child arrived in January, it has been documented he has ran probably 300 times since arriving and all we can do is follow the child and try to coerce, plead, beg him to return. I told them today in mgrs meeting, obviously this placement is not meeting his needs, they have made no progress with this child since he arrived and i feel that in a sense they are just as guilty of neglect, for not being able to keep him safe. I have told them when, not if he gets hit by a car, or assaulted out on the street, i will be damned if my name is splashed across the front page of the newspaper for not providing adequate care. My dilemma is should i continue to hang in there and believe that they will make changes,( its all tied to budget and funding) or get out while i can with my license and name in tact. the job i enjoy( to a degree) and the kids i want to help, but i see many potential red flags??? what would you guys do? all opinions appreciated. for the sake of chatting and having something to chat about.

This is sooo sad. I don't know how you do this...I would be smuggling kids home like the pied piper and Mary Poppins.

i would be a little upset about that too and would probably light into his azz, dont worry bout no dyam itinerary if you cant even take the time to read a letter. i had been writing d quite a bit too and he was writing too but not as freq until i had one of my PMS fits on him about his lack of letter writing in conjunction with mine and now he is muuuuccchhh better about it.

Oh I fixed his butt when I found out he still had not picked up the letters from July. I quit writing him at the end of August. I wasl like until I get a letter I'm not writing no more letters! LOL needless to say no corresponding has taken place  ok nobody told him to have me mail the dang letters to Negril and he wroking in Ochi. That was his smart doing! MEN are something else!!!!

Why would he have you sending the letters to a PO in Negril when he lives closer to Ochi? The drive from Ochi to Negril is damn near two hours (I did the drive in August) so I can understand why he doesn't have the letters. And trying to forward the letters from Negril to Ochi via JA postal mail makes no sense when you could have just mailed them straight to him. Not trying to put you on blast but this makes no sense...pappyshow.

sol they tell me well we have never been cited and we continue to document when the child runs.. they are monitored by the state, department of human services, and they say well our agency treats the difficult cases, but if you aske me it boils down to money, i said well if we cant send him somewhere that is better equipped to deal with him then can we lock the damn doors in the unit. They say we are an unlocked facility, i said well yall dont work 2nd shift and yall dont deal with what we do on a reg basis. These kids some of them, because they know we cant open up a can of whoop azz, which some may need, its a game and the minute they get mad they run for the door. So anyway they say we are funded as a nonlocked facility and if we lock the doors then that is saying we dont require as much funding for staffing, blah blah blah because the facility is secured. my response to that is whatever... i just see something bad happening and i want no part of it, but im not a quitter so i gotta figure out a way to work this cause im telling you this child is off the chain, one minute is kicking you and pinching you and calling you names ,the next he is crying, the next he is wanting a hug and to be your helper the next he is busting one of the other kids upside the head. He makes a shift damn near unbearable sometimes. Him and him alone.

Jawi they are sad and the more i read, i cant believe the damage that has been inflicted on these kids. one is 9 and when he was adopted he was 28 pounds, his mom was a fiend and his dad the dope man. He was sexually abused, had sex acts performed on him and to other people, put in a dog cage, starved, etc and was told he was being trained to be a pimp so when he came in he told us he was a pimp , now mind you he has a speech problem so pimp sounds like PIP, but what pisses me off is he was adopted by an african american lady him and his brother, she reported that she had come from an abuse environment so she adopted the boys to provide love, well one of the boys went to clowning on her and she whooped his butt, well he told his teacher he got a spanking by his adoptive mom and they called CPS saying she was using corporal punishment, took him and his brother and dropped them into foster care with us and told her she needed parenting classes. Hell this is the first time these kids have had love and discipline and you find someone willing to deal with there issues and you remove them from her care ,because of a spanking. ( i swear shyt boggles my mind sometime how things are run)

I know that I said the same thing. First off he was going to the PO in Ochi looking for the letters and he kept asking me when did you mail them? Then he realized he told me to mail them to Negril! He is in Ochi to work but he lives in Negril only thing is he has not been to Negril in months except for when he went last Saturday and of course he went and got the letters but forget them in the house! Oh and didn't read them either becuase he had his 10 month old with him. :bonk: Like I said I'm trying to be calm but I really want to slap him right about now.
