Hi JaLove and KKholiday, isn't the weather wonderful outside, so why are the 3 of us on line? Me, I'm doing some work for work. But I did get some good news yesterday, that I would like to share w/others.

Joel left home when he was 13, qnd he was raised by this man that kinda took him under his wings. About 5 years ago this man was shot and killed, he left a young daughter and and a young son behind. Joel has take them on as his responbility even though, they have mothers and aunts who was caring for them physically. Well, the young lady is very smart in school, so when I met Joel we talked about how it might be possible for her to go to college. She had told me that she wants to be a medical doctor, so I told her not to give up that hope because if she wants it it will happen. Joel and I had talked about maybe we could help her w/this financially, this was when we thought he would be coming back to work thru the work program. That didn't happen, so those hopes were dashed, but we didn't give up hope. Last night she called me and told me that she was offered a full scholarship to college in Cuba. At first I started to heistate, but then I realized that this was a blessing.

So, I told her to please don't turn it down, go until that something else she wants comes up. I am soooo happy for her.

This morning I was thinking, would I still be able to write to her when she goes to Cuba? Or will I have to send my letters to JA, then they have to forward them to Cuba. I don't want to do anything that will be me or Joel on some govt watch list. But we will still need to keep in contact with her, because Joel has promised her deceased father he would.

That is a great story Rox I am happy for the young lady.

Roxcie that is wonderful news - I did a Google search and found this thread:

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thre...hreadID=1561153

It states the following:

http://pe.usps.gov/search/jsp/search/vv_do...mp;dtype=2#hit0

Country Conditions for Mailing — Cuba

Mail service is limited to letters in the usual form, Braille letters for the blind, postcards, and printed matter sent as First-Class Mail International items, International Priority Airmail (IPA) items, or International Surface Air Lift (ISAL) mailpieces. Priority Mail International parcel service is not available.

Prior to mailing, customers need to contact the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury for general provisions governing U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctions and for comprehensive information about goods and services that may not be imported to or exported from Cuba. The contact information for OFAC is as follows: OFAC, U.S. Department of the Treasury, 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Annex 2, Washington, DC 20220-0002; www.treas.gov/ofac; 800-540-6322.

I am sure it can be done - I actually have a friend that lived in Cuba while she was growing up - her Dad worked for Reader's Digest, and was stationed there - Her youngest brother was born there. I am sure it can be done -

Well, I am off to get ready to go out - I know I am crazy to be going out on a Sun night, but it's my friend's bday and the guys are playing, so off I go!

Jalove...why not stay in Maryland? Although Florida is quite nice and has some similarities to Jamaica. Maryland has all four seasons :)

Hello VJ family. Just checking in...

Glad Sunny and her luggage made it one piece.

Nice story Roxie. Best wishes to her.

We had a great weekend. I stayed home Friday and pampered myself. Got a manicure, pedicure, facial and cut all of hair off :o.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
