Second, he just got his new version of his passport, not because it was lost but because he wanted the updated one with the bar code. Now, did the US govt do something on their end, who knows. He has indicated that he will keep his old passport for the stamps.

Have a friend who's girlfriend has family in Cuba and she a dead fi go...BUT she thought long and hard..she's a lawyer and she does not want that stamp on her record...she know better

You can ask them not to stamp your passport. It's something they accommodate.
