...and can save your life!

download_nbcam_pink_ribbon.jpg

New cases of breast cancer in the United states are estimated to be 178,480 (female); 2,030 (male). Of these an estimated 40,460 (female) and 450 (male) will die from the disease. (National Cancer Institute figures).

Breast cancer ( if caught early enough) is treatable.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

My Grandma died from it. Please, in doubt, go see the doc. Early detection saves lives!

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

I read in Health magazine (I think?) that monthly breast self exams aren't necessary anymore...maybe I read it online...hmmm...I know I posted it in one of the say anything threads.

How else would you have early detection?

well I don't know that's why I posted it :P

let me try to find my post because I said where I read it

Maybe so, however a lump could be one of the FIRST signs in alot of cases.....Doing a BSE wether a mag says it's ness or not is better than doing nothing and waiting until you are forty and get a mammo every other year, you know? :)

well that didn't take much time at all to find...

According to a review by the Cochrane Collaboration, an international organization that evaluates medical research, there’s no evidence that self-exams actually reduce breast cancer deaths. In fact, the often-recommended monthly chore may even do more harm than good, according to the group’s analysis of a pair of studies of nearly 400,000 Chinese and Russian women.

I read the article and thx for posting it, Amby.

BUT- IMO ( of course) BSE are a way to detect BC often before it's time for the yearly screening mammo.

I still say and will always say ...women everywhere

do whatever you can to reduce your risk of dying from this wretched disease!

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Detection is not the only key.

It is secondary to nutrition.

If people do not raise their awareness of the food they eat and where it comes from and what is sprayed on it and if it is a GMO/GMF,

then well, people are taking their chances.

An aside:

And please recycle your plastic water bottles and stop using/buying them.

Get a glass bottle to fill up from home and take it with you...if you are the type to need to buy water often.

Are there any recommendations in terms of lifestyle changes or types of food to eat or to avoid that can greatly affect your chances of getting breast cancer?
